Maxidot Dashboard illumination fix

Featured Replies

They aren't blinding though, not even dazzling. They are bright at worst and highly visible at best. They do the job they are designed for and pretty inoffensive.

DRL left.   Sidelight right,

and no Fog Lights on the Top price Fabia model.   Simply Clever. Not.

*But the Brochures the Sales People and even still Skoda Dealers selling Used vRS tell you there are Front Fog Lights.*

Well aware that the dealers seem to have no idea what is and isn't on their vehicles and won't be told either. Fog lights are essential on any vehicle IMO regardless of spec level.

Pictures are subjective and light levels look different in each photo but I think that's perspective. Also, the pictures are head on rather than from a drivers seated perspective.

You are a driver, and see enough of them and see nothing wrong, so they obviously never bother you.

Correct, they don't, but they do bother you, we all have our own feelings on these things. No one is right, no one is wrong.

I'm surprised that it's gone wrong really as the car is just four years old

I have the same issue but it's the speedometer needle rather than the rev counter.

Noticed it on Saturday evening.

My car is a 2011 model too.

Fog lights are essential on any vehicle IMO

Why?

They don't help you see in the fog, they're there to help others see you when fog reduces visibility to below 100m.

It amazes me how many people turn them on in traffic at the slightest hint of fog.

Have you not just answered your own question? "they're there to help others see you"

I see them as essential from a 'be safe, be seen' point of view, when used appropriately in line with the law.

it would be nice if you guys with the effected clusters could let us know what you did to get them fixed, when you do.

Well seeing as we've strayed from the original topic slightly who likes diy conversions to HID headlights? Now they are annoying, and illegal too, although I don't think the Police have enough time to stop all the offenders judging by the growing number of cars with badly aimed dazzling lights, I usually flash my headlights at them but I doubt the other driver even notices or cares.

Heavily debated topic, so many different opinions and interpretations of a very sketchy ambiguous law/ruling.

My view......

Fitted and checked for beam correct beam pattern and level in a projector lens is fine

Fitted in a reflector unit is a big no no regardless of checks etc.

I felt a bit keyboard warrior in my last comment so edited it. However, I'm not sure if the question was posed to get a reaction or not.

Its just been covered about 50 million times in the mk2 fab section alone.

Bottom line for me is, if theyre fitted correctly, in the correct unit with the correct levels.. only a keen motorist will spot its different.. And thats because of a slight blue tint

Does anyone know how to repair the illumination of the rev counter needle on a maxi dot dashboard, the rest of the dashboard is still working ok but Skoda say you can't just replace the led/bulb because it's a sealed unit and you have to replace all the clocks. The car is a 2011 Fabia. Thanks

Hi,

As i tried to change all illumination in my vRS (i don't like green) to yellow, i also removed maxidot dashboard as i tried to use yellow LED for both needles. Problem is that you must remove whole plastic that covers the LEDs, to do that, you must remove both needles. But they seem to be glued or something because i was unable to remove them. I was afraid to broke something, so they stayed white :)

"they're there to help others see you"

I'd like to suggest a flaw in your always on "be safe, be seen" approach. If you're dazzling someone aren't you less safe if they can't see your brake lights or the curb/road markings. It's particularly annoying in the rain, there are enough lights being diffracted by the rain drops as it is.

"You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves." Seriously Reduced Visibility is less than 100 metres.

I suspect most drivers have no idea what 100 metres is though.

I've only seen visibility reduced that low in the UK once in the twenty-ish years I've been driving.

What? I have no idea what point you are trying to make here. Your quote beginning "you MUST...." says its ok to use fog lights under those predetermined conditions, right?

I said fog lights are essential from a be safe be seen point "When used appropriately in line with the law" so where is the flaw in my post?

We are saying the same thing aren't we?

If you are thinking of doing it yourself, having a word with Ryan Mcrae wouldnt be a bad idea.

Hes changed the cluster lights in his mk1 fab himself, along with all the other dashboard lights!
