Headlamp bulbs and winter wheels

Featured Replies

An unusual combination I know, but my father in law had just bought a brand new Monte Carlo (1.2 DSG). He's not happy with the dipped lights and wants me to upgrade. I had a look at the owners manual, but couldn't see anything that definitively stated the bulb type. I've found something that suggests both the main and dipped are (separate) H7 bulbs - can someone confirm that please?

Also, he's interested in winter tyres/wheels. The car has 215/45R16 as standard. Are people going down to 15" for winters? Anyone know the Skoda part number for the "official wheel" (again' i couldn't see anything in the manual that stated the size)

Thanks in advance

Steve

Think the bulbs are H7, could be H8, but that differs in the socket only. Which of course is important but doesnt affect output.

As winter wheels are compulsory here, mine was delivered with som Goodyear M&S (I dont fancy spiked tires) on the standard 15" alu-rims.

I bought steel wheels for winter for Fabia Style 1.2 TSI 110 PS, but I can't put it front because of big calipers (288mm disc). Can someone post part number for steel wheels that have on some Fabia 1.2 TSI 110 PS?

Wheels with this part number can't go front.

Depends on the lights. The ones in the S and SE are H4. The one with the projectors are H7. That being said, you need to have the hands of an extremely dexterous child to change them yourself!

Thanks. I didn't realize there were different light units. It is projectors and the main and dipped are different bulbs so sounds like it's h7

That is strange, my wife has a new Polo 1.2TSI SEL - and it has the ATE callipers and 288mm discs, it was supplied with 6J X 15 ET38 (or 40) steel spare wheel. I took a chance and bought a set of Riverside VW alloys which are also 6J X 15 ET38 - and they fit okay, not much clearance on the fronts though, but enough!

Edit:- I would expect that there would be more clearance with the steels as the material will be thinner, I can find out the part number of the steel spare wheel tomorrow if that helps!

Please send me part number when you take a look.

Don't worry - it's not very clear at all. I only know as I saw another post on here from someone who had done the digging and found out.

Both are 6x15 ET38.

Ah, good, you now know what you need, the spare for wife's new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS is 6R0 601 027 E (6J X 15 H2 ET38) though I'd be surprised if there is any difference, 6C0 is a newer/later platform so I'd expect that VW will now be using that part number as well as the wife's car is actually a 6R0/6C.

Edit, it might be down to the Polo wheels for a car with alloys look more like the Rapid ones, ie no extra holes for locating the wheel covers.

About lights.

Today I put H7 HID kit 4300K on my Fabia Style. Think it's very good upgrade for poor fabric lights.

My wife's new Polo is an SEL and so it came with LED lights, they seem okay so far, my previous two cars have had HID factory fitted lights - HIDs are very very good!
