Radio Bolero Frozen on Splash Screen

Featured Replies

Morning All,

Set off in the car this morning, turned the Bolero unit on and it has frozen at the splash screen that says "Welcome to Sokda". Thankfully the radio is playing however none of the buttons have any effect.

Reading the manual it provides no re-boot option (as opposed to purely re-set), turning on and off etc. has no effect.

A trawl of Google and Briskoda suggests the best course of action is to pull the radio fuse, wait 30 seconds, and re-install. This should promote a re-boot. With the selling Dealer being a 120 mile round trip away I'm not about to rush down there but may call them later to see if they have a view.

Just interested to know of anyone having similar issues and any fixes that might have been applied.

Regards Bob

Happens to me pretty much every week. Always related to listening music from SD card while turning ignition off and leaving car. During next start, big chances of problems with Bolero (for example Radio does not work).

Happened to me too, though only a few times since March when I got the car.  I have been lucky and found that switching off usually cures it, though not before a number of random button pushes whilst I work out what is going on.  On reflection, and as noted by Miwost, it seems to be associated with using the SD card though I have also had it lock up for a while on the reversing sensor screen (sorted itself out after 200yds or so of normal driving) and also have had the radio playing but with only the 'Welcome' screen.  I have come to the conclusion that you need to treat it as with most software driven items - don't ask it to do anything until it has completed the previous command.  Perhaps they involved one B Gates industries in the compilation of their software...?

If you press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds the radio restarts :) Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies..............spoke to the Dealer who of course had never heard of such an issue and suggested briefly disconnecting the -ve battery terminal to force a re-boot.

However typical with these things I went back to car and lo and behold the radio was back to normal! However the replies above suggest it may not be an isolated incident. I have noted when coming out of reverse the display can take a while to revert back to the radio. As I normally reverse onto my drive I wonder if I was a bit quick the other night turning the radio off somehow causing the lock-out.

The Dealer seemed interested enough to ask for a call-back to know if I'd resolved it and was happy to investigate further if not resolved. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi -  just in reading forums - not just here - Octavia, Passat etc .. there seems to be a temperature related problem with radio units fitted to VAG cars in last couple of years. The reports generally is that they ( or some of them ) can be unresponsive at startup - and seem to come alive later in journey.  So, they "unfreeze" !!

Not seen it - yet - on the Swing unit fitted to my Fabia. It's not been cold enough here yet. The Swing seems to be a cut-down Bolero - smaller screen - no option for Smartlink, etc ..

In response to your comment about reversing - and the slow return to radio after coming out of reverse gear - this is a .. feature .. on all of them now - ( there is a thread on here somewhere about this ) - but essentially - it's in case you are close to something and if the proximity should become more hazardous after you deselect reverse. ( e.g. rolling back into something, or the something is a "moving something").

Have only had the reversing display go off once but the sound signal was ok. It just missed out screaming STOP when I got really close to the car behind. Occasionally moving off after a reverse move it has taken longer for the muted music/radio to go back to normal but appart from that it's been OK. I think there is a thread about disconnecting the battery (if you want to reset the radio) I seem to remember there is a sequence you have to follw after reconnecting the battery Joe

+1 pressing and holding the on/off/volume dial down whilst the unit is off for about 10 secs causes the unit to reboot. This will sort most immediate freezing/crashing issues.
