I live in france and would like to know how the system of obtaining a spare ign key works (in uk or france). This will make my appearance at the French parts counter easier as my French is still rudimentary. I have all the tags that were supplied with the keys when I bought the car (new)

You will need proof of ownership , log book,and be warned it will take 10>14 days.

As above... but also you have to hand over lots of cash!

 

I think the basic key is £160 and the remote one is over £200. That's in the UK anyway... no idea how the prices compare to france.

Do they keep the original key for 14 days (I hope not !). Do they need the car to pair with ?

They don't even need to see your original key. They can cut one based on the registration and VIN number of the car.

 

The price may or may not include the cost to code the key into the car.

 

You can programe the remote in yourself but the imobiliser needs programming using special software.
