Best battery

Featured Replies

Need to purchase a new battery as my original one is no longer holding sufficient charge. Looking to get one from euro car parts, and have seen they do a duracell one. Are these any good?

Measure the existing battery length, width and height as there is much confusion over batteries fitted to the VRS. Cannot comment on Duracell, think they are new to car battery market. Try carparts4less as they are the cheaper cousin to ECP.

There was a guide done a while back for the mk1 Fabia vRS.

Called 'upgrading the battery' I think. Worth a look

After looking at various options, I was told categorically to get this one....

I just killed one of those :D

Replaced it with a Bosch S5.

Another vote for the Bosch S5 as above cheapest I could find was carparts4less

I had a varta on my old car. Was over 8. Years old and still working fine. Had jumped many cars too lol.

It's where mine came from. £79.99 delivered

I think my varta was killed by the time the car has spent in the garage this year.  Been drained, boosted, charged, and drained again too many times.

Varta and Bosch look to be made in same factory as they are identical except colours of plastics used.  I've bought Bosch S5*** in the past, but this time, as it was daughter's car (!) and I'm only minding it for a couple of years, I bought a Bosch S4*** - well that was the only Bosch range that Costco carried!

Back to the second poster, I agree, definitely measure the height, width and length, and note where/which post is +ve - and take it from there, the Bosch car battery on-line catalogue will convert your measurements and noted "amp hours" and "current" SAE or DIN from the battery currently fitted into a definitive Bosch "model" either in S5 (5 year) or S4 (4 year) versions - the S5 version will always be better.

Edit:- I've probably got the same comments about Duracell car batteries, maybe they have been supplying them for years elsewhere -  I just don't know, so would use the trusted brands.

For info:

275 X 190 X 175

12v 70ah

They answer the phone promptly. Just ensure the pos and neg poles are on the "correct" side.

cheapest I found by a good few quid when buying last year for the knock-a-tron.

Plus, dig about.. they did a 5% off for a land rover discovery forum club or summat that worked.. don't remember the code, though.

Maybe they'd do the same for Brisk if approached?

Eurocarparts are worth a shot. There's usually a healthy discount to be had....

How does the plastic cover thing on top of the battery come off ?

It is secured by black plastic clips that just need to be pulled back.

is that the same size for the 1.4 mpi ?

It's best to remove the air duct intake from the front slam panel to the air filter, then remove the top of the air filter housing, this gives better access.

Disconnect the battery, tie back the Negative connector.

There are 3 clips, Left, Back & Right, use a long screwdriver, slide down into the slot and lever them away from the side of the battery and lift the cage up slightly, disconnect the Positive connector, then unclip the fuse holders and the top front shroud holding the wires in position, as you lift the cage away you need to prise open on the LH side of the lower front shroud and slide the wires to the LH side this then allows the cage to removed.

Sorry but I have no idea!

VRS up to 55 plate (pre-BLT) - though there may still be exceptions, I think.

Upper lid, clips on offside of the lid, unclips and put to one side.

Fuse carrier, clips on the offside of it, unclips and shuffles slightly to the offside to unlatch the tabs on the near side. Usually, mine ends up suspended somewhere to the OS of the battery.

Front panel, usually just pulls straight up.

Disconnect terminals, earth first.

Battery clamp, more difficult if you've Xenons but basically a long extension jobbie on a socket set.

Battery has to be shuffled forwards slightly before lifting out as there's a retaining "nook" at the back of the battery box.

Battery has a "cozy" on it usually. try not to derange it too much and it's the major PITA trying to get it all snugged back into the box.... Other than the battery clamp if you're as mechanically obtuse as me.
