Can Alloy Wheels Be Straightened

Featured Replies

I have a couple of Alloys that are no longer shall we say exactly round.

The outside of the wheel is perfect & runs true but on the inside of both the rim is pushed in at one point when viewed square to the wheel, its only about 6-8 mm but obviously enough to cause road noise as the tyre slaps on the road, Im also getting the feeling of un balanced wheels over about 120 mph.

I have ordered 2 new wheels but before I ditch the old ones I wondered if it is possible to get them fixed anywhere, I will then have some spares should it happen again !!

Wouldn't Micheldever Tyres be able to help on this one? Thought they dealt with alloy wheels, but I might be mistaken.

If not,

Micheldever do your usual refurb or Anthracite colouring but I'm not sure about straightening....only one way to find out....give em a bell.

Used to be a place in Reading that did repairs......can't remember they're name though.

BJV Engineering here are able to straighten alloys, subject to the severity of the damage. I'm not sure that dents like yours can be fixed though, Stuart, and I wouldn't drive at 70mph with wheels like that.

I'm sure your wheels were straight at the cannonball run start - Can't imagine what you've been doing since then. :D - It sounds like one of your wheels would be OK as a spare as they are now - if they're only mildly unbalanced at 120mph on that private test track. ;)

They don't sound really badly dented anyway, so should be repairable by people mentioned above, I reckon.

Thinks this was the place that did repairs:

Thanks Guys, I will give these places a try

Jason, they were straight at the start, it would appear some slight over enthusiasm at certain stages of the Cannonball caused the problem, The Spanish roads are somewhat sub standard & I can remember a couple of bone jarring moments. They seem to chuck in the odd pothole to keep you awake

Ask Ffelan or our webmaster when he returns from his holiday - hopefully Paul'll reply soon anyway. They've both just had wheels straightened. Somewhere "oop North" of course, but hey....
