Red car with three circular wave symbols coming from the top and sides

Featured Replies

I can't find this in the manual, so it's rather confusing, but has anyone else seen this?

It's a red car, with the three growing semi circular lines (in red).

One set of three from the top/front of the car and one from each of the lift and the right side of the car.

It flashed up then went, so I'm more than a little confused.

I have something like this as part of the collision detection on my Suzy Vitara

Is this not the parking & proximity detection system activating?

As far as I know, it works the same as normal parking sensors (where traditionally you would have them at the front & rear of the car)

It also uses sensors on the sides of the car to detect things like low walls, bollards, posts etc.

I remember reading another thread which said if you are driving reasonably slowly in normal traffic where you are close to parked cars or another lane of traffic the system will activate & show the parking/proximity window on the entertainment unit.

It's the front assist emergency warning system.

Basically the car will make the noise and soon after (if you do nothing) it will apply the brakes for you.

I've only got rear parking sensors and front assist (Rather than the sensors). Plus I was going forward at the time.

Weird, I was nowhere near anything else, cars and was on a wide and open road going quite slowly.

Where did you see that as I can't see it in the manual.

There were also no noises, just the image in the maxidot.

I think my BMW's version uses the forward facing camera, the Suzy uses it's Microwave radar. Does you Skoda have anything like those?

Front assist has a radar.

Front assist has a radar.

Might be that then :)

You could try a pretend crash with a parked car, but don't say I recommended it :D

If its in the MaxiDot, it is the front assist collision warning as VtecToVrs said.

However, when it comes on there should be a loud warning beep for 3 or more seconds.

Its quite intrusive so I'm sure you wouldn't miss this if it went off.

Anyone know what page of the manual this is in as I've not seen it and I've looked quite hard.

Yep its the car thinking you are about to have a collision.

Its actually bloody good. I had someone stand on the brakes in front of me....in hindsight I was probably in reality going a little too fast and too close to the person in front given the conditions but was trying to prevent being cut up on a motorway slip....but my bad.

The car threw the warning before I got on the brakes....it then broke v hard indeed and knocked off alot of speed allowing me to perform a controlled stop. It even applied the hazards for a few seconds afterwards.

If it hadnt intervened I doubt Id have stopped to be honest.

It false alarms now and again...usually on a roundabout where you travel up the inside of stationary traffic on the inside lane and it thinks you are going to drive into the car to your right due to the curve in the road. Still v useful. One of those things id have happily lived without day to day but now I have it not sure id want a car without it or some other similar crash mitigation tech.

I actually had the same thought process, as mine went off a couple of times when I thought I wasn't close to anything. Could't find it in the instructions so rang Skoda assist and they explained what it was.

The system uses radar, so although you might think that you might not necessarily be that close to anything, it will warn you based on your speed and proximity to any object that may be in front of your car - I got a warning as a newspaper blew in front of my car!

Clever system though!

It is page 155 if you look at the latest online manual here:

The printed manuals provided with the cars seem quite outdated.

Collision Mitigation (like front assist or emergency braking) will become mandatory in Europe very soon so all cars will be fitted with it.

Dont doubt that, a great move.

I find it annoying :(

I first saw this warning very briefly a couple of weeks ago...it was on a late night drive back north after a long day in London and I really did think I had dreamed it, as it looks totally different to anything else that appears on the Maxidot display!

There were no cars anywhere near me but I think it was triggered by approaching the separators on the road junction (it was near where the A12 joins the M11 and has low concrete lane dividers).

I did intend to look in the manual to prove I wasn't going nuts, but forgot all about it until this week when it happened again - this time it was a vehicle braking suddenly in front of me on the motorway to avoid an object in the road. And yes it was accompanied by some loud 'bongs' which I didn't notice the first time it happened.

Ahh, it was a windy day and quite a bit of debris blowing around, so that would make sense if a bag or similar was in front of the sensor.

Good to know though :)

It is the Front Assist but at least most people here seem to know what is by now but nobody from my dealership had even the faintest clue as to what it was, when I described the mysterious warning light which had appeared a few times, even on the first time that I drive it when there wasn't even another car in front of me at that time!

Obviously Skoda thought that everyone would automatically know what the warning light was, so thoughtfully decided not to include it in the car instruction manual just in case anybody might get confused...It might be in newer versions but it sure ain't in mine and believe me I looked very carefully. Upshot was after various phone calls to and from the dealers they kept giving me different explanations as to what it was and the last statement from the service department was that it was because my car had Adaptive Cruise Control, which funnily enough it doesn't, so zero marks for product knowledge and customer service go to Henry's Skoda in Glasgow!

I had my car do the emergency stop thing once which came as a bit of a shock as I was in a 30 limit in town, when the car in front thought at the last possible second that he would turn left just in front of me, signalling his intentions only with his brake lights. The warning light flashed on, beeped at me and stopped the car virtually before I could even brake. It kind of works but wasn't really needed in that situation as I would have been able to stop in time anyway as the offending car driver was off the main road by the time I'd actually been forced to stop anyway. I like the safety idea of Front Assist but think mine might be a tad too sensitive at times as the warning light has come in when the only car in front was passing by me on the other side of the road, think that's what happened the first time I drive it when I went from Glasgow out towards Loch Lomond on some fairly twisty country roads. Maybe the Front Assist is/was a little bit off and was reading things which weren't a hazard as possibly dangerous, whatever the issue I haven't seen that pesky little light for quite a long time now.

There are still a few things on my car which I struggle to work with and the nuttiest one is the truly bizarre concept of combining foglights with your normal headlamps with only one control which completely prevents you from bejng able to turn on either rear or front foglights unless you take your lights off of the Auto setting which I normally always have it on, put it back to On and pull it out and turn it the other way. I got caught out with that recently coming home on one foggy night when I could see the symbols for the fog lights but could not see any way to turn them on at all. What's wrong with just having separate buttons for fog lights? I don't remember the salesman pointing out this little quirk when he was showing me around the car when I collected it!
