Towbar coding

Featured Replies

Recently had a towbar fitted with dedicated 13 pin electrics with coding.

I have been digging around to find exactly what the coding does.

I have found the following :-

Deactivates parking sensors

Turns off Eco driving mode

Deactivates foglight

Stability control

Can anyone confirm these or any others and offer any more detail on how the stability control changes and how.

Also loops the alarm through the connector as well so if anyone disconnects your trailer electrics when the alarm is set it will trigger.

Hope your dealer did it better than mine, RH lights on TB electrics did not work and they managed to wipe out all the electrics to the front passenger door which in turn messed up the central locking and internal lights FFS!!!

As you can see below the vehicle electrician is a complete knob

My dealer did not offer it said I should use a professional fitter to keep my warranty. I used united towbars. Excellent service and no issues

Just had a towbar fitted and coded. All seems to working apart from alarm when unplugging electrics. Also, how can I tell if the trailer stability has been set up?

Roger

If you read the attached page from the user handbook about trailer stabilisation it explains it all

Since when did Skoda supply genuine Skoda 'trailers' direct from the factory!?

Thanks for that Will. I guess I should read the handbook!!!! That is on page 169 in my book.....just found it.

I am thinking they missed the coding for the alarm to work of off the electrics, that's if it is coded!

Can anyone supply a full list of what should change when dedicated electrics fitted, as I am trying to show/prove to my tow bar fitter that the alarm should trigger when unplugged and would like to show him a full list.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.

When towbar coding is done are these items done individually and therefore customisable by whoever does it?  Reason I ask is that I'm considering getting a tow bar fitted purely for using with a bike carrier and if it means that the coding lost me Eco mode it would be an big issue (Eco makes a big difference in my VRS Tsi DSG!).

Timmys

If properly coded Eco mode (and stop start ) are only disabled when something is connected to the tow bar electrics

Yep I get that the towbar coding effects only kick in when something is connected, it just seems a shame that things relevant for towing a trailer/caravan would kick in when attaching a bike carrier.

It's the extra length with the bike carrier (and the fact that there's something close to the sensors) that defeats the rear parking aid that makes coding to turn off the system necessary.
