Hatch boot not shutting properly when cold

Featured Replies

I've trawled round the forums trying to find an answer to this but couldn't see an obvious one.

In normal conditions (i.e. ambient temperatures above 6/7 degrees) my hatch boot shuts and opens just fine.

In cold weather, the boot will "bounce" on closing, requiring several attempts to latch shut. It always opens ok.

I suspect this is either a wear or lubrication issue that's probably really easy to fix and would be grateful for any pointers.

Mine did similar a while ago. All of a sudden it would not close tight, really had to coax it shut, but it soon opened while driving. To cut a long story short people suggested several fixes and solutions (for which I am grateful) but the fix was a new bottom lock unit about £35, ..........not too sad

in the winter whilst servicing and repairing passenger lifts, we used to get a common fault on door locks where grease on the pivot point would harden. This resulted in the lock not working correctly as the arm would not drop.

Id take a guess that something along the same lines has gone on.

You could try giving the mechanical moving parts a good clean and then lube with excessive amounts of WD40.

Best way is to strip and rebuild, but the WD40 may work.
