Suspension geometry setup

Featured Replies

I had 4 wheel geometry setup on my car after having new tyres fitted approx 12 months ago. Only getting around to posting now but back at the start of the summer after perhaps 6k km of driving since the adjustment I noticed outer shoulder wear on both driver and passenger rear 6k km old Goodyear Eagle F1's, no abnormal wear issues on the front axle. I check my pressures regularly and all are according to the Skoda spec. Car is a PD vRS hatch on factory 18" zeniths with 225/40 18" Eagle F1's all round. Attached is a copy of my geometry setup which was carried out on a Hunter hawkeye machine at a VW dealer. Are the settings they applied to the car correct? Prior to the geometry work I have had no abnormal wear on any tyre on the car over 180k km I have driven it since new, the reason I got the work done was I the steering wheel appeared slightly off centre when driving dead ahead.

Thanks in advance!

Alan

Those settings are fairly close.  Personally I'd run the rear camber more upright but I do lots of straight line motorway driving. More upright wouldn't help your outer edge wear issue though.

What do you tyre pressures do you mean by "Skoda spec" as I find the specified pressures to be very low.

PS: the photo is really hard to read.

Should all be green!

cant see the detail in the pic  - too blurry ,smal.. but as above, all the "afters" should be green - if not, ask for it to be done again (or get your money back and take it elsewhere).

Thanks for the replies, cant seem to take a more detailed pic and meet the size requirements of the site but will try again when home. Reason for front end in the red is I was told at the time it would require a front subframe drop and would have tore- book the car in to get that done however my issue is on the rear. Very difficult to get decent suspension setup here in Ireland, that work was carried out by a VW dealer.

Mine for ref

Should all be green!

You won't get the front cambers any better as they are both excessively negative.  Dropping the subframe won't make any difference as it only takes from one side & adds to the other.  Possibly the top mounts are worn - this will add some negative.  You can get away with negative 1.5 / 1.75 degrees especially if you are running toe-in and the side-to-side offset is perfect on that car.

Also, you shouldn't get hung up with getting all green boxes.  It's best to set up the car to suit the tyre wear and the driving style.  Sometimes this means deliberately setting the car up in the red.

OP:  You still haven't said what pressures you actually run.
