Bolero - make it display Asian fonts?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to make Bolero display Chinese, Korean etc. fonts in songs? Is there a language pack or something that could be installed?

My iTunes displays them without a problem.

Anyone? :/

It's pretty annoying not being able to see what song is playing, but only seeing squares instead of the fonts.

As opposed to making changes to the headunit, I would try to change whatever software your used to rip/tag your files, since metadata can be encoded with different formats and it might simply be a matter of choosing unicode as opposed to what is currently on the tag.

...metadata and internationalization on mp3 files.... brrrrrrrr.... the memories I get after having tested this on early days in Nokia phones :)

Thanks for your reply. I'll try this first and see if it helps! Somehow I still think it's Bolero software problem - after all it doesn't even support any non-European languages in the menu to begin with.

If I have time and patience, I will make a few experiments on my car and let you know what works and what not.

I checked my Asian mp3s and most of them are in the UTF-16 unicode format, anyway. A couple of them in UTF-8 format and some in ISO-8859-1. If anything, at least UTF-8 should have worked, no? But none of them are displaying in Bolero - all I see is crossed out squares. Really disappointing, especially after the local dealership also confirmed there was allegedly no language pack that could be installed, either. :(

Then you already covered the formats I could convert to.

Did you also update your Bolero to the latest version?

Also, try to stream via Bluetooth from phone and see if it is any different.

Might well be they totally left the fonts out of the firmware to save space. Which is stupid, since a font takes about 100kb

How can I update my Bolero? By entering my VIN number on the Skoda website's Update Portal (http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-US/Updates/TMBEN6NJ5FZ011009)?

If so, I've done it before but there were no updates for my VIN... Or is there another way?

At any rate, looks like I'll have to convert my Asian mp3 ID3 tags into pinyin (Chinese romanization system)...

Depending on the build date of your car, if you have got MIB1, there is an updated firmware floating around, along with instructions, but... To save you trouble, I will see if it displays special characters via Bluetooth from Spotify. Just need to remember this thread when I am in the car and I keep forgetting it ;)
