Rear window winder

Featured Replies

Received my SE Estate in April and just recently, due to the way the car fogs up so quickly, I tried to lower the right side rear window while I was driving along. In the SE model, the rear windows are manual winders. I found that the window would lower by only about 5 cms.The left rear lowers easily all the way down but the right jams after a turn of the winder handle. I will take it back to the showroom and ask for attention under warranty. But... has anyone else found a problem with the manual window winders? It might be worth checking, I think it was the first time I had tried lowering the rear windows since I bought the car 7 months ago.I will also ask if the ventilation is working correctly because the car mists up all the time now and I often have to keep the air con on just to keep the screen clear.

This time of year I'd keep the air-con on all the time anyway (I do all year round). The air is very damp this time of year which doesn't help but if you get excessive misting-up it's worth checking there isn't a leak anywhere (check carpets for damp etc.).

Obviously the jammed winder isn't right and will need Dealer attention.

I took the car back for a check at the showroom (Silbury at Cramlington). They took the door liner apart and greased it up and returned the car in 20 mins. The winder works correctly now. The dealers said it only needed greasing and they gave me a  a printed report for me to keep in case it went wrong again. I din't think much was wrong in the first place but I would not want to take the door liner off when the car is under warranty, I've done this on older cars and it really needs a lot of skill to avoid more damage than good. The car still fogs up like a sauner though.

Did you ask the Dealer about the excessive fogging of the windows?

Manual winders? It must be 1990 since I had a car with manual winders.

We visited my son a few years ago while he was working in Beirut Lebanon and shared a taxi with some local people. The taxi reeked of petrol and the locals were smoking like there was no tomorrow the lady next to me said something to the driver and he calmly handed her the window winder. One winder 4 doors makes the Fabia seem luxurious Joe

Likewise, but as they are only in the rear...I really don't care.

There's a lot to be said for manual winders ;-)

When I had my last escort with manual winders, I fitted motors and switches and used the holes in the door cards for tweeters! Perfect fit it was!

Manual winders are a simpler fix than electric ones if they go wrong.  Nothing wrong with them in the rear of the Fabia.
