how to decat 1.4mpi?

Featured Replies

i heard rumors that if decat the 1.4 mpi check engine light will come up on dash..... is there any way to prevent this? will it gain something like power or better mpg? i will do this only if the current catalytic converter will fail.... i am not concerned for emissions or that stuff we don't have mot like they do in UK because emissions enforcement started from 2009 onward so cars prior 2009 are not enforced by the law for emissions c02 they just check for visual smoke ;)

will an induction kit with a cold air feed benefit in performance or mpg... i know the 1.4mpi is the slowest of the bunch and i don't expect crazy figures but i like it because it is a simple engine that i can work on it without needing a mechanic.

please i don't want to sound rude or something but if you cant answer my questions please leave the environment comments to you're self.

It is quite simple to decat it. Just cut it and weld a pipe instead. You will need a custom remap to cancel the O2 probes. A cold air induction kit would be more suitable for a diesel engine. I can't see any benefits for a petrol one.

Later edit: like any other remap, you will need a couple rolling road tests to get the figures (dyno). This way you'll be able to make a difference before vs after. IIRC, the 50kW engine has a loss of ~5% power and 15% torque at wheel when tested on a rolling road. A decent done decat and other slight mods (custom exhaust system, stainless steel maybe, straight pipe with a decent back box, after market air filter) would get that figures closer to the official ones IMHO.

Later later edit: if you're looking for power, maybe think about thinking about getting a different car. 1.4 mpi is a car that has been designed to be driven around the city since it's torque curve sits around 2500 rpm (diesel like). I have the same engine and my O2 sensors failed about 2 years ago. I've replaced my old cat with a 2006 1.6 VW Bora one and things got a little bit better. It's revving a lot faster now. I'm currently working on improving the handling of this car, but planing to upgrade the engine as well (thinking about swapping a few parts from the 1.6 litre AEE Felicia engine with a custom remap).

Thanks for youre reply. No i am not looking for power but if there is chance to improve the power or mpg i will try to get it done.

Wont canceling the o2 probe make the fuel air mixture go gaga?

I done the thing on my old rover i just straght piped it and welded the lambda sensor nut to the pipe. But i read if i do that on the fabia engine check light will come up

Mpi has 2 cats one is actually in the downpipe the other is underneath the car. You could lose the underneath one easily enough no need for remap or anything. If it has a 2nd lambda (don't think these do) then a lambda spacer will sort that out to stop the engine light coming on

Mpi has 2 cats? Didn't know that!

i looked underneath it today i def saw a small cat box under the car and a lambda sensor behind it  int he section that is located under the front seats.

If it has a 2nd lambda (don't think these do) ...

Mine does.

All euro 3 and above rated engines have 2 lambda probes. Since mpis are rated as euro 4, they do have 2 sensors.
