Belt screeching noise

Featured Replies

I've been noticing recently, a screeching noise that lasts about 1-2 secs, when I accelerate from a stand still.

But this ONLY happens with the AC on.

AC off and there is no screeching noise during take off.

I'm assuming some belt related to the AC compressor is on it's last legs.

Any advice/opinions.

Should I get fixed asap, or in the fullness of time?

Car is a RS TSi, 2010 built, DSG.

Recently clocked over 90,000 kms.

I'd get a new auxiliary belt fitted as they are reasonably inexpensive. This belt also drives the alternator, if it were to snap it could leave you in a bit of a predicament.

Probably the aux belt as above. In the uk they only cost about £10 and easy to replace yourself (easiest to removed the drivers side wheel and arch liner).

Don't leave it too long as they have been know to wreck the cambelt when they fail.

Won't wreck the cambelt on a TSI though :D

thanks for the help folks.

i'm taking it to the garage this thursday to be looked at, and hopefully replaced.

I had the same problem and the belt looked OK so further investigation revealed that the hub in the middle of the alternator pulley wheel was slipping. You can have the pulley replaced but I just changed the alternator for a reconditioned unit and the problem was solved.

Yes that can also be a common problem. They wear out as they have like a clutch/freewheel inside which wears eventually.

As you say it can be replaced with a special locking socket tool thing. Would have been cheaper to replace just the pulley though.
