Newer Columbus in pre FL still not working with MFSW

Featured Replies

I replaced the old 'A' Columbus in the pre facelift Scout at the weekend with a newer one (H10 with 5270 software). I hoped this would solve the issue of non functioning MFSW controls and freezing maxidot. Alas, it hasn't. Does this mean the new Columbus still needs the 4020 'fix' used for older models or is there perhaps something else going on. Please excuse the fact I'm a totally numpty with the technical stuff but would like to get this sorted if possible. Thanks in advance.

I suspect this is an age of gateway thing.  How old is your car?

Thanks adamal. It's build date was September 2008. I had a chat with MikeH about it and he suggested checking the protocol on the Columbus to see if it was on BAP or DDP. I gather that for a pre face lift I need to take it off BAP if that's what it's on. I'm hoping to get that checked next week.

Yes definitely set BAP off and it could be that if the Columbus has come from a FL car. September 2008 should be fine for the gateway.

Fingers crossed! The Columbus is certainly FL era so I'll get get the protocol looked at and will post an update once that's done.

Pretty sure it will still need the pre-FL fix applying.

I think that fix is needed only in the older units with older firmware mate, I have a newer unit in my pre FL and no such issues.

You might have been lucky adamal :)

Another member had very similar sounding issues in a pre-FL car running 5xxx firmware which looks to have been fixed by applying one of the fix cd's http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/350173-maxidot-fix-for-pre-fl-cars-with-rns510-columbus-retrofit/

For some reason I don't think the 5xxx/6xxx fix exists on my-gti but I found it here http://gpsunderground.com/forum/volkswagen-seat-skoda/34434-vw-rns-510-skoda-columbus-i-firmware-guide-downloads.html which links to here http://www37.zippyshare.com/v/gbRRQd3H/file.html

Once sarge has checked it's correctly set up, if the issue remains I would definitely suggest trying the above fix cd.

Thanks guys for above input. Hoping to get Columbus checked on Friday so will update thereafter. Fingers crossed it's just the protocol issue.

Garage tried to get the MFSW and Columbus to communicate but to no avail. I guess the next step is to try the software patch highlighted by langers2k.

I have just fitted a newer columbus to a pre-fl scout my08 and I had already retro fitted a pre-fl MFSW, all the buttons work except the fast forward and rewind ones on the left, the skip track, volume, light and mute button all work, and the non-working ones worked with my stream unit, I have sat nav working with my maxi dot, any suggestions for the buttons?

Mike, did you try the firmware fix for the steering wheel buttons?
