Parking sensor sounder not working

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My parking sensor sounder stopped working a long time ago. Getting around to fixing them now.

If I use VCDS to activate the sounder - no sound. I replaced the speaker but still no sound. I can make the parking sensor warning light activate with VCDS.

I have replaced the stereo unit with an after market unit and honestly can't remember if that's when the sounder stopped working. The new stereo did go wrong about a year ago and I put the Stream back in while it was being repaired but still no parking sounds.

Can anyone tell me where the other end of the speaker wire is? Is there a parking computer?

Many Thanks

Nick

The stereo is not required for it to work so unlikely to be your aftermarket stereo causing the issue.

Do you get no sound at all or a single long beep then nothing?

There is a control module at the back of the car in the boot. Left hand side behind the carpet.

Does your rear washer work?

wow - that was fast. thanks

No sound at all

Rear washer does not work no. The pump runs but had years of grunge in pipes so gave up trying to get it to work. don't have a puddle in the side of the boot if that's where you're heading? - off to find the control module... may have disturbed it as I put in a rear cam at the same time as the stereo

Yes I was thinking that the pipe may have popped off and got the control module wet.

Found this description of how to access it;

"Now turn the attention to the back of the car and strip away the trim from the left side of the boot. I started by taking the centre trim of the rear sill away (three plastic nuts by spare), then the lower d pillar trim (screws and clips), then the c pillar upper trim, and then the luggage cover support. You need to remove caps from the hooks to access the screws and also there is a screw behind the big hook. Then I pulled the rear seat bolster off at the top (just a good tug), and unscrewed the side trim. The rivet things by the cd changer (if you have one) pull out easily with a long nose pliers applied on the centre pin. This is for an estate, a hatch will be slightly different I imagine.

Now you can see the controller on the inside of the wheel arch, with three plugs, one bigger 16 pin brown plug and two smaller 12 pin (brown and black) plugs for the sensors. Pull them all out and take off the old controller (two nuts)"

Hi Phil,

Time's got the better of me - school run time. Thanks for including the description - very helpful.

Will post what I find

Just as well I didn't pull the boot to pieces earlier - I went out in the car with SWMBO and came home - parked next to the normal hedge. 10 minutes later came out and went to reverse off the drive and heard bleeps. 1st time in years. On investigation, with the B pillar trim off and the speaker dangling, the sponge wire covering had caught in the inertia seatbelt and pulled it a bit. The result was bleeps. If I jiggle the wiring around I get bleeps - so tomorrow will replace the wiring between the loom and the speaker and put it all back together - If there's no more posts below this one you'll know that this was the final fix!

Hope this helps others

Nick
