ToxicVRS goes off-roading!

Featured Replies

Having acquired a 4x4 Daihatsu I'm wondering if anyone has experience greenlaning etc and where to advise kit wise etc.

Get the underside protected. Greenlaning won't cause much damage bar a few scratches

Plenty, including in the Yeti.

The best advice:

Don't go on your own.

Join your local 4x4 Club or 4x4 Response Team.

Learn how to drive it properly.

Carry a tow rope.

Ensure that you only use legal routes.

Learn to read an OS map.

If in doubt DON'T!!

Where are you?

I'm out Knighton way, yeah I'm bearing that in mind, will kit the vehicle up first and go up on a mates farm to sharpen up on it

Look our for websites that have guidance, again don't go on your own and you are looking for BOATS (byways open to all traffic)

Go along to a local 4x4 club first and get some experience.

& fit pair of proper / strong / reliable Recovery Points Front and Rear and use a Bridle to fix any recovery rope to.

Thats for when really for Offroad, and winter onroad mostly,

because Greenlanes are onroad and the Traffic Laws apply in England and Wales.

(Scotland does not have Greenlanes.)

Mid Wales 4x4 Club used to do a trial out your way. A bit extreme for what you want to do, but they seem to be a good bunch, plus there is of course 4x4 Response Wales and we will be holding a training weekend soon.

There are a few green lanes around your area and I have a marked map of those that are legal and safe,

PM me if you want to have a chat.

Trials are the eventual aim but I'd like to build up the car and my skills before hand :)

Tyros & RTV's (Road Taxed Vehicle Trials)

are fun and non damaging and a great way to learn skills.

It has been through the middle of a field several times

Some byways have seasonal restrictions as well. These tend to be marked on signs at entry points to the byway in question.

Not much of a problem around here, luckily, but we do have a few with permanent TRO's on them.

And from experience some TRO Notices seem to disappear very easily!!
