Superb III petrol version hatchbacks

Featured Replies

Superb III 1.4tsi. Has any one experience on its real world performance and fuel consumption. Or should I consider the 2.0 tsi as the better option. The claimed fuel consumption and performance figures seem very generous/ optimistic on both the new models.

I have the 1.8tsi mark 2 petrol superb currently.

Welcome along to the forum, plenty of knowledgeable owners around.

You've posted in the site issues area, hopefully a mod will be able to move to Superb III section where you'll get a better response.

Thanks.

I would not buy the 1.4tsi manual, you will be going up and down the box all day, dsg is different as it will do all the work.

If your more than happy with your 1.8tsi power the new 1.4tsi will feel the same.

Ok on that. I would go DSG anyway, but if it's up and down the gears even in auto this will wear the clutch. My 1.8 is auto, but had to have the clutch changed at 21000 miles as it was shuddering in 2nd gear so I'm slightly concerned. May be its got to be the 2.0L then.

Don't think it would be up and down the box. Even the poverty spec MKII 1.4 tsi has a reasonably wide power band of 1500rpm all the way through to 6000rpm.

You need to decide whether the 1.4 MKIII has enough power for you. As someone else has mentioned the MK III 1.4 tsi (150ps) wouldn't be too far away from the heavier MK II 1.8tsi (160) and probably a lot more economical.

However the MKIII 2.0 tsi looks rather interesting and I believe (hopefully someone else will confirm this)  has the latest engine that has two lots of injectors (direct and port injection). This is to reduce particulate emissions but has a good side effect of reducing/curing valve carbon buildup which CAN be a problem with direct injection engines

I think you need a few test drives!

Test drives it a petrol car.....good luck with that!

When I ordered mine, I test drove the 230Hp Octavia with DSG gearbox.  Having never driven one before it was to get a good feel and the salesman said it was a close as I was going to get to the Superb engine (220) and have to say it was excellent, quick, quiet and the gearbox went from 1st to 6th without any feeling whatsoever.

Not technically minded for cars so cannot comment on the injectors but looking for to the 2.0TSI when it arrives next year.

I managed to find a 1.4tsi to try at Westover Skoda in Salisbury...and then bought a 2.0tsi 220 without being able to try one. The 1.4 was fine - but I know I like more power and torque, so went for the 2.0. I would have dearly loved the 280, but budgets have their outer limits for everybody.

I have ordered the same engine and took an Octavia vrs for a test drive instead because nobody has anything but the devils fuel. hahahahah :D  as a demonstrator.

Many thanks folks for the info, I'm still waiting on a date from my local Skoda dealer for a test drive. I might try another dealers, the wait has been some time. I guess as I want a petrol test not diesel! What sort of factory lead ins have you been offered for the 2.0 tsi 220 model.

Sorry for the delay, I ordered 28th Sept and build date is 21st Dec, so should get vehicle about end of January.
