New key options

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently purchased second hand 2005 Octavia and it only came with one standard blade non-remote key.

What is the cheapest way to get a key fob to have remote locking?

Having done some research my options are

1. Main dealer ~£200

2. Buy used key fob and blank blade, cut new blade and ask someone with VAGTACHO to pull SKC off my car then programme used key fob/immobilizer with VAGCOM.

I just wanted to know if its possible to open existing non-remote key and remove immobilizer transponder and place it into used key-fob?

It looks like I would have to melt/cut the plastic bit off the key is it does not look like it is meant to be opened.

Also how much would option 2 cost and how do I know which key-fob I need to buy? Frequency and part/item number have to much right? How do I look this up?

I am based in Bromley, South East London so if someone is offering/knows a good place to have this done pleas let me know how much it would cost.

Many thanks.

If this helps at all, I have taken a Vauxhall Zafira remote fob apart before and the immobiliser part was just a small piece of which could easily be removed.

I took it apart to re solder the battery holder to the circuit board, for a mate.

Yes you can take the old transponder out its easy enough. Yes skc from clocks will allow you to program virgin transponders which are cheap on eBay. You will need to upgrade your CCM too to support to remote locking. Been a while since I did it but my car had the standard none remote blade keys, now has 3 remotes and 1 blade all working. You may also need to add a piece of wire to the CCM as an antenna to improve range.
