Poor mpg?

i cant get anywhere near the figures quoted on the thread. working out miles to tank vs pump fill up the best i got was 44mpg. thats mostly town driving but even trying to "take it easy" still doesnt return me much better.

 

the most ive had out of a tank so far is about 330 miles. 

That's the problem with town driving, everytime you slow/stop its wasting petrol you've spent getting up to speed in the first place. Even if you drive like a saint getting up to speed with the audi 2" from your boot unless you hold the speed for a while the energy has been wasted next time you stop. The only plus you have, my old Volvo used to get 18mpg tops when I showed it a town.

Started doing 70 instead of 80 on motorways. Damn it makes such a big difference to mpg and hardly anything to my journey time.

So here's another question. What fuel? I did 2 runs on vpower,and now I'm back to standard unleaded. I want to say the car is a bit louder, I seem to notice the engine noise under load if the radio isn't on. Anyone else experienced something similar? Or have I been a fool and fallen for the market hype?

 

 

Does the ASG have the same ratio's as the manual?

 

It normal practice for an automatic to have different ratio's to the manual

Indeed it is,

and an Automatic Gearbox with different number of gears will need to from a Manual Box.

As to Automated Manuals with the same number of gears as a Manual you need to look at the specs and see the Ratios and Final Drive Ratio 

and those are available if you care to look.

I dabbled with premium unleaded brands, and they seem to reduce noise, but no noticable mpg changes that couldnt be masked by driving style. it should have been a clear improvement. I think there is more in these fuels about reducing engine wear should you be planning to hit 150k, but if not, you are just saving the next owner money..

and a new engine wouldn't be that expensive should you ever wanted to go that route.

That Citigo its come out of looks straight, 14 plate with 8k miles, and they're breaking it??

more money in the sale of all the parts than the complete car sometimes, especially if its certified stolen or something? that would devalue it maybe?

Good point. Doubt I'll be even going over 50k miles.

And damn. I wonder why they would take an engine out of what looks like a perfectly good citigo. And they won't show the reg plate either. Maybe it's stolen..

An engine was taken out of a new silver Citigo for the build of Citigo with more go.

No idea if it was sold to someone, but it will have been a good one.

if a breaker gets a damaged car, thats what they do, break and make more money on the sum of the parts. they have no interest in repair, that requires money outlay

Yeah but the car looks like it has no damage. Although I seem to remember from years ago if a car had been involved in certain crimes then it was allowed to be broken but not allowed back on the road. 

 

I remember a m'bike magazine years ago did a story on bike parts, they worked out if you bought an bike it would cost £8k, if you bought all the parts to make your own it was above £20k. 

One other thought, he may have to hold onto the parts for quite a while to sell them, and the longer he holds onto it the more competition may be out there.

Back OT, I would not consider 54mpg to be "very, very poor" (to quote the OP). Yes, there are number of owners who get more, but not significantly so, and doing 80 on the motorway would certainly harm the overall mpg. I would't be overly concerned and just enjoy what the Citigo is best at, charging down a country lane.

Over 25,000 miles and tracked through Fuelly I'm averaging 54.8 MPG, i am really happy with that, I certainly wouldn't think of that as very poor. 

I think the Citigo mpg is amazing, I went from Gloucester to Reading and back the other week doing 70mph and averaged 61.1mpg with two adults! Really impressed [emoji3]

Hi,had my 67 Monte Carlo 12 months now just had a service. Filled her brimming from empty 35.08 litres costing 45 quid. Just drove to Cornwall from Manchester and on the way back I managed to hit the magic 500 MILE tank barrier WOO!!!!!!!  40 psi in the tires and I kept the speedo at an indicated 65 which is 60 mph accurate and the car returned an impressive average of 66 mpg. Been after trying this for a while. :)
