Bearing fault

Featured Replies

A while back we noticed a droning sound coming from the driver side front wheel when the car hit 70.  As soon as you dropped below 70 it went away.

We left it in to our dealer at the weekend and today that called to say that the bearing needs replaced.

They haven't got the part and will have to have the car back to have it fitted.

I'm hoping that it's covered under warranty as the car is only 17 months old.

You'd hope it was a warranty claim, but I'd imagine Skoda could easily suggest that a pothole or clipping a kerb could have damaged it.

Good luck.

If it is a warranty claim shouldn't wheel bearings be replaced in pairs?

Thanks Silver. I will ask about doing them in pairs

So we left our car with our dealer to investigate the drone from the front drivers side wheel.  They confirmed on Monday of last week that the bearing was indeed faulty and that they had never seen this fault before.  They said they had to back order the part.  We were told initially 3 days to get it  in but when we chased after three days they said it could be up to a month before the part would arrive.

My wife used the car to drive from Milton Keynes to Portsmouth last week and said it is now making the noise at 60 mph instead of 70.

Getting a little bit concerned on how long it takes to get in what should be a readily available part.

a month for a wheel bearing ? someone's walking it over from china are they?

Dealer never seen a wheel bearing go before? A month to get one? Do these guys make it up as they go along?  AFAIK you need  part number 4B0498625

The bearing has been released from back order and they should have it in the next few days.  Booked in to drop off on the 9th and collect on the evening of the 11th.

Fingers crossed.
