bad lights

Featured Replies

i miss my old superb whith the exelent xenon old bulb combo the lights was superb.

my new one l&k whit xenon led combo is crap the full light is like the old half light.

how do i conect a led bar to the car is there a kit to do that.

Say again ??led bar ??

There is a number of posts complaining of the new xenon lights on the O3 so maybe not just an issue with the superb. Some members have replaced the OEM bulbs.

Say again ??led bar ??

The LED strip that runs along the bottom of the headlight, its quite thin on the MK3.

The MK2 FL has much bigger daylight LED driving lights.

The DRLs don't aid night vision though. I thought the OP was asking how to connect an aftermarket LED strip. Can't see that helping though, as it's not what they are designed for. As someone else has said, replacing the OEM bulbs would be more beneficial.

yes a led bar and it is the high beam lights xenon that is very bad if i compare them to my old superb

so i wont to mount a ledbar in front of the car for brighter light

ah.. i get you now... more so as you are from Sweden who love the spot lights on the front of the car... so i guess you are wanting an LED spot lights bar..

........and another set on the roof?

Easy to do, use a 12v relay with the switched input taken from the high beam signal line that moves the shutter.

Alternatively try 55W lamps and matched igniter/ballast units.

Are the MK3 xenons not as good as the MK2 xenons?.

My MK2 FL xenon lights are not too bad. For the first time last night I went in my colleagues new Mondeo which has full LED headlights. The Mondeo low beam was brighter than mine on dip, but the Superb xenons are better on high beam and project the light further in to the distance.

I find the dip beam much better than the MKII but as the SLA is pretty clever there is not such a huge differance (as rhe dip beam are already brighter) when main beam is put on.

They are a marked improvement on the Mk2 Scout I had on dip of course I only had halogen on main so their is a massive difference.

how do i conneck it to the shutter?

Let's hope Superb III Facelift version comes with full LED package☺

Might not be so simple...there was a thread on the Yeti forum some time back about fitting driving lights, and you couldn't just tap a normal 12v relay in....talk of using transistors...

See here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/287539-wiring-additional-driving-lights/page-2

Different car obviously, but worth a read I think.

That's a pain. Transistor switching would work, but needs knowledge of electronics to get the 'base' terminal wired in such a way it doesn't upset the shutter controller.

And a lot of messing about to find the right signals too.

Car electronics are getting way too complex!

See posts 22-26 in that thread, it details how Joel did it.

Oh for the days of a battery , a bit of wire , a switch and a bulb eh!

Does anyone have any experience of using CREE LEDs in the headlights?

Hello!

How did it go, did you install a led bar?

I really like the old superb/octavia lights, they were sooo much better than the S3..

I got Smart Light Assist and wonder if it's possible to use it combined with a nice LED-bar.... anyone knows?

After comparing my new S3's headlight level to the Xenons from my previous Octy 3 VRS (using the same neighbours car), I can confitm that they are pants!

The question I have which might be of interest to the OPs light problem is, can you adjust the level that the xenons settle at after doing their wake up dance? If so, is this mechanically, via VCDS or is a dealer trip required? I assume they set their level using either a load sensor on the rear axle, or a tilt sensor and adjust their level automatically on how fully laden back end is.

If that is the case, are there any allen head screw adjusters (as per older cars) for mildly altering each lights base level and would the car compensate for this by adjusting the lights south again?

Mine shine way to close on the road for my likeing and a few degrees up would pls me greatly. IMHO they should cut a nice clean flick across the middle of the car in fronts backside (above the bumper but below the rear wondow) around the VW badge level on a VW Golfs butt (for example) when travelling a safe distance behind it.

Mine dont even reach the cars exhaust and that just annoys me. I've tried turning off the adaptive lights and using the plain old ON position on the switch, but nothing seems to change their low level!

I'm hoping it's possible via VCDS, bit if needs be a trip to the stealer may have to happen. Thoughts anyone please?

Yes the car needs to be hooked up to VCDS or the dealers equipment (VAS / ODIS) and then adjusted manually just like the halogens, if you do not hook the car up to VCDS etc 1st then there is a real chance of damaging or breaking the adjusters.
