Estate Roof Rails

Featured Replies

The one thing I think I messed up on our L&K order was not specifying the Chrome roof rails considering the car comes with the chrome window surrounds!

Is it possible to change them?  Or too much hard work and cost?!

A dealer should be able to change them with not to big effort. I have no clue about the cost for chrome roof rails. Usualy in RO dealers have sky high prices for such replacement parts, I hope it is not the case in UK.

Have you ordered the car yet? You may be able to change the order.

I'm sure it is possible to change them, but looking at mine it looks like its probably a headlining out job. No idea on cost - sorry!

If/when I get a new Scout I might go the other way.  It's for this reason I'm also considering a lower specced 4x4 in order to avoid the chrime (genuine typo but appropriate to leave).  It's a shame we're out of sync both in the change cycle and geographically.

Keep us posted on parts and labour costs which might be prohibitive.

Which is what I think its going to be as no doubt will involve removing the roof lining to do.  I'm not too fussed just would have been nice!

meb90 - yeah arrived a few weeks ago and it was only then I thought - Doh!

The black ones are probably more practical though if you actually plan on using bars or putting a roofbox on at any point.

The silver ones likely scratch/tarnish more easily...having the stock ones might not be such a bad thing.

Yeah I do keep thinking that too to be honest! :)  It will defo be having a box on it, got one previously (Thule Motion 200), just need to sort the bars.....

how about spraying it chrome by a car paint shop? any colour code to reference?

Nah that would feel like half a job and would probably wear even worse!

Better than spraying would be wrapping. You would be able to return the car to stock and replace the wrap if it got too worn and it wouldn't require removing the headliner which is a good way to get rattles and poor fit.

That's not a bad idea!

I also think a wrap would give a better chrome finish than spraying.

Best to be sure the real chrome rail isn't a practical option first.

Get all the chrome bit, painted, wrapped or whatever, in black

Prefer the chrome on the L&K tbh.....

If the MkIII is similar to the MkII then the headlining does not need to be removed.

There are removable caps front and back which conceal the securing bolts.

This is the Scout with silver rails, check your black rails, are there caps on the inside edge?

There aren't removable parts like the MK2 looking on the parts catalogue.  Those black pieces look like they may come off and possibly the bolts are under them.  Don't want to prise anything I don't know how goes together though.  Can only find info on the MK2 on the online parts catalogs..............
