Worn brake pads indication?

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 TDI SE estate with 40k miles. Does anyone know if my car has a warning light for when the brake pads need changing, or should there be a wear indicator within the pad which will squeal when they are below a certain threshold?

Thanks

If it's got an indicator it's only on one of the 4 front pads.

You get a dash light, no bong.

It's not reliable either.

Mine came on a month after having new pads fitted then went away itself.

Agreed; its reliability (or lack thereof) makes it worse than not having one.

40K is nothing for the pads though, my old Oct MK2 was on 99K with the original disks and pads when I sold it.

From what I recall the pad sensors are on the front pads only.

SWMBOs 1 series needed a full set of disks and pads at 33k.

We don't live near the sea.

BMW quote £1000

I change them on my old VRS at about 60k and I think I was premature.
