Obtaining a CD player for a Fabia ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

First post here & new to Skodas so be kind please. :)

Just bought today a 51 plate Skoda Fabia 1.9Tdi Elegance Estate for my wife.

Actually, we don't get the car until Sunday but looking at the spec for that year and model I see that it only comes with a radio/cassette unit with no CD.

Later models seem to have a CD option.

Can I fit the later Skoda radio with CD to my car & what are the parts I need ?

Now if it was a VW I know that the standard Beta/Gamma radio would accept a separate single or multi (dash or boot mounted) changer giving me what I require but as a Skoda newbie, I don't know what I need ?

I know I could probably fit other manufacturers ICE but I'd rather actually stick with the factory stuff ..... I know !

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks !

I think that they're mostly common. Certainly the Vdub radio someone showed me recently looked to have identical connections to that of my Skoda Symphony CD/Tuner.

I have no idea if your r/c will drive a CD-changer and IMO the better option would be a phatbox if you're remotely computer friendly :)

Yes they are a straight swap, so all you need is the head unit itself. You will need to borrow a pair of extraction keys from your friendly dealer, and you need to know the security code for the new radio, but the actual swap takes only a couple of minutes.

yup thats all you need, id sell you mine but im holding onto it to replace back in car come selling time, sorry... bound to be someone else who has changed their H/U though.

I sold the cd player car stereo that came in my first vRS to a chap who's wife had also bought him one so he has a "spare".

Trying to think for the life of me who it was now. I'll PM you if I remember :o

The standard OEM CD player, although 1x DIN size has a "lip" at the top that goes above the DIN hole. If you put an aftermarket unit, whilst it fits, will leave you with a little gap at the top for which you can get a blanking plate from the dealer for about £2.

Ok, thanks !

If you want to retrofit the underseat changer the part numbers for all the bits are on my website.

Once again, thanks for all the very useful information !

I have actually carried out the installation of the CD player in a 51 TDi Fabia estate.

Just a couple of points from my installation which may be useful.

The VW gamma radio will work in place of the Skoda symphony, same connections on the back if you already have one.

On our Fabia the passenger seat has the storage box fitted, so the CD changer goes under the drivers seat. If yours is the same, the cover part number quoted on Stu's site is for the passenger side, you will require the one for the drivers side, so the part number ends in 098 not 097.

You can buy the connectors and make up the lead if you are skilled in wiring and soldering (I have made one for our Fabia and Golf - same lead connections).

Some of the Skoda symphony radios need the software coding changed to work in the Fabia.

Have a search for one of my posts on this forum for details. You will need access to VAG-com or a friendly dealer to do this.

Hope this helps

The reason you have a stoarge bin under the passanger seat is because you don't have a CD changer from the factory. If an OEM CD changer is fitted it should be under the passanger seat and the drivers seat has a storage bin.

Damn, wouldn't you know it I just sold one !

However, that's still good to know as the VW head units seem much more readily available than the Skoda ones.
