2000(X) Audi A6 2.4 Auto Spares or Repair

Featured Replies

These days I seem to find myself driving the A6 more than my A8, so in order to restore sanity and restore normality its got to go.

I've put spares/repair as the car does have one annoying issue which may or may not be a cheap fix. I need to free up some funds to sort some niggling issues on the A8, in part whilst its sat idle for a while.

Summary

Car: 2000(X) Audi A6 C5 SE Auto
Mileage: 173736
MOT until May 2016
Patchy service history

Mileage is increasing as car is still used.

Over recent years the poor car has seen little use, from the paperwork it was last serviced sometime ago, but has hardly done any miles since. However it was supposedly serviced before my sister partner bought it, but there is no proof.

The Good bits:

Cambelt snapped a few years ago, so the top end of the engine and more was rebuilt at a cost of many £K for a previous keeper and the car has covered less than 10K since. There is a receipt for this in the paperwork.

Everything works except the alarm because the siren has failed, including the
Aircon which blows lovely and cold on the LO setting and the cruise control too.

All tyres are in good shape, including the spare.

The headlights look like they've been replaced as the plastic lenses are lovely and clear.

The bad bits

Front OSF wing replaced due to corrosion some years ago,, this has been done badly and the paint colour does not match. However this wing was secondhand and badly fitted and now rusting as well.

Some scratches and dints in the bodywork

Some minor rust bubbling on the roof towards the rear screen by the roof rails and elsewhere on the body.

Engine light is on, but it has been for a few years, because the cats are below efficiency but still perfectly ok for the MOT. Why they have the warning at 95% efficient who knows. You can clear the fault and drive 400 miles or so before it comes back on again.

And the worst bit, the gearbox. It has a judder at low RPM, research suggest its either new fluid needed (Poole Audi quote £175) or it needs the box replaced/rebuilt.
I've driven the car a lot over the last few months, including several longish trips and its fine once cruising. Its not got any worse over my ownership.

Whoever buys it can drive it home.

Looking for £450.

Feel free to stick the reg number into the MOT History website, and its been clear on recent MOTs except for the CEL and the last one had a failed rear foglight. (X853 ATE)

Car is still available for sale, now passed 174K

Over christmas it undertook several long trips, so does drive perfectly fine for the most part.

Car still here, will accept offers.

Gave it a good clean yesterday as I have been using it every few days.

To save uploading fresh pictures which I took just now, I'll link to the for sale thread I have elsewhere.

The car is now gone, to the great scrapyard in the sky I think.

Driving to sell it for scrap value to a used car dealer when it literally nearly caught fire having just left the M32 at Bristol. I did make it to the dealer, but was ready to decamp at any second. She now sits sad and unhappy with battery disconnected in Filton. The run from Blandford to Bristol was its last and longest trip for quiet sometime.

They are going to check what the cause of the smouldering wiring is and attempt tol fix it, if its not to expensive before putting through auction but looks unlikely. Engine and everything still working, so cause is unknown, even the dealer could not identify it.
