Exhaust Emissions Post-remp

Featured Replies

I believe the VW group limit the power of their engines not only for marketing purposes, i.e. sell a 130PD cheaper than a 150PD, but also for emissions and complying to the latest standards.

Now if you remap a diesel, I wonder what effect this has on the emission levels - if you overdo a remap, you get black smoke...

So would a remap cause you to fail an MOT test, or get pulled over and prosecuted for a "dirty" engine ?

(edit: couldn't type remap correctly in the subject on first post!)

Speaking only from a petrol point of view I believe all Jabba remaps (or may be all remaps) pass the MOT emissions test.

You have to remember to turn the CC off though even if it's standard. I think Jon's RS (TaviaRS) is complient even without the cat.

the "CC"??

Whassat

Climate control...raises engine revs ever so slightly... :)

Hmmm - This sounds stupid, but my V5 says my car emits xxx grams of CO2, which is why my tax is so damn cheap each year. Would a remap cause an increase in the amount of CO2 being pumped out, and although it passes emmission standard tests, it would be more "polluting" than my V5 states? (and put me in a different bracket for car-tax?)

I don't know if there's any beauracratic legislation about this, and TBH, I don't really care - another case of curiousity kills the cat. :D

The V5 and tax is all based on listed ratings anyway...wouldn't worry about it!

Yep, the V5 is according to what Skoda or whoever says the car produces out of the factory.

Once it's left the factory, who's to measure it and notice it's changed ? ;)

Regarding "CC", how could a higher idle level affect MOT ? Is there a limit on that too ?!? I would have thought SkodiRS was refering to a catalytic converter...

No....climate control it was.

Don't know why but it's a known fact...I think it's even mention it in the owners manual. Denis will know.

Suddenly thought that CC could also be used for cruise control.

Air conditioning or Climate control can affect slightly the idle speed and emissions output sufficiently that it could fail the test. most of the time it wouldn't, but if it was borderline on passing then this could fail it! :)

The MOT Testers Manual states that:

If, during the catalyst emission test, the engine cooling fan cuts in or out, this is not a problem and the test should continue as normal. All other vehicle accessories (eg headlamps, air conditioning, heaters) shall be turned off during the test.

So it is a requirement of the MOT test itself that air conditioning be switched off during the catalyst test.

BTW, the MOT Tester's Manual is in our web links here along with lots of other interesting and informative links!

See.....I knew Denis would know.;)

But only because I know what is in our links section: a fund of useful information!
