  • I would not have a hatchback without a rear wiper. I believe a clear rearward rear is vitally important for safe driving. The only saloon I have driven in the last 30 years was an A4 (obviously with n

  • Yeah baby, yeah!

  • I love those rear wheel parking brakes. Top Class! Might just have to get a set for mine!

Yeti front and rear sockets are “always on”

I know this is a personal preference but I opted for the rear wiper. It's just really useful...when the rear window is covered in water, or when it has been frozen and the rear screen has half defrosted, you can miraculously 'wipe' the rear window without getting out of the car! Who knew!? Haha

Joking aside though, I don't think it looks too bad and I have played around with trying not to use it to see what it would have been like without one...even though my car was autoglymed (I assume this will work the same as it's an Aquaphobic coating??) I find that particularly when in heavy rain, the rear visibility is often diminished massively by water pouring off the roof of the car. Also, perhaps it may be something that could affect resale-ability...only Skoda will know the stats on how many do/don't want it but my guess would be that more do in the UK. I think the only reason we get the choice is indeed aesthetic - in the same way as they attempted with the twin-door, markets such as the German market are very much biased toward saloons...no wiper makes the aesthetics look more this way and suits them because they don't normally have one. Most people worried about the aesthetics presumably come from driving saloons such as 3 Series, A4, or C-Class. Personally I just think it's one of the things that sum up how good Skoda are that they give us the choice (presuming they then deliver the right thing).

sadly they (skoda cz) didn't give us the choice here (skoda australia) of having mk3 Superb hatch with a rear wiper, full stop.  not even an option we can put on.

i miss having one, as u said - the rear window gets filthy big time!!

i had a rear wiper on the my mk2 Octavia hatch, and that was very very useful.

i remember reading somewhere - in some markets it was mandatory to have the rear wiper if u specc'ed the rear view camera.

sadly despite our superbs getting RVCs as standard, we did not, and still do get the option of a rear wiper!!!

annoying az fook!!

It's not good just for rain, but also for snow. You don't have to go and clean snow from your rear window when you seat in the car. That is a huge advantage for me.

I agree that it’s great Skoda give you the choice at zero cost. Now since you mention saloons I’ve often wondered what is the point? Why would anyone want a saloon over a much more practical hatch? Indeed this was one of the (many) reasons the superb appealed to me over an Audi A6. I imagine some people might say they like the look of a saloon better. Skoda have done a really good job of making the superb look like a saloon if that’s your thing. I imagine those very people are the ones who prefer no wiper.

Ah, you MkIII newbies!

Us MkII owners get the best of both worlds, saloon and hatchback on the same car...

Alas, no rear wiper though.

We looked at one back in 2010 (I think) when we found out that the Octavia was way too noisy. Problem was simple, the hatch was so complicated and heavy the 5' 4" Mrs could not reach it to close it and even if she jumped and grabbed hold it was too heavy to move.

The normal hatch on the Mk 3 is not an issue at all and for the record we have a rear wiper. Why not when its free.

That's because it's a mans car :D

What is for sure is that the dual opening system is complicated and no doubt expensive, but durable. It shouldn't come as a surprise it was dropped on the MkIII.

I still miss the rear wiper though, if for nothing else than to clear the condensation on the rear glass twice a day.
