Skoda Newbie Ordering help ASAP!

Featured Replies

Hi guys I was wondering could you please offer me some advice/ thoughts.

I'm going to order my first ever skoda on Monday this is the spec etc I'm thinking of going with;

2.0 sel excutive dsg

Extras I'm considering are rear blinds, £650 alloys upgrade and full leather I'm still very much undecided on colour but quite like business grey.

Can you please give me your opinions on any other upgrades which would make my ownership more enjoyable, and make my new skoda unique. If you could give me your thoughts on colour also it would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance..

Business Gray is so boring IMHO. I would go for the dark blue, brown or black - with cream leather. I don´t know what comes standard in Ireland, but I would go for (no less than) Bolero, DAB, xenon, electric tailgate, Sunset windows and some of the assistants (radar cruise control, auto hi-beam etc). It all comes down to the price; to spec it as high as you can afford :)

Not sure of the spec in Ireland, agree about leather, if you can get beige it looks nicer (currently unavailable in UK unless ventilated due to supply problems), rear wiper is useful for drizzle or muddy roads.

If you are considering rear blinds then you probably have a family, without knowing the ages I'm guessing but if you need to carry them to car seats, then electric boot or rear seat release from boot might be useful so you can easily load bags of shopping with other hand. Tri zone a/c might be be useful if you have a baby and adult may sit alongside in rear, teenagers would probably appreciate it also.

Next, decide if there is anything that would always niggle you if you didn't have it, if so include it. Beyond that just consider things that suit your lifestyle, do you do long journeys, carry lots, use your car as an office, do you use on frosty mornings. But avoid spending too much on options as you won't get your money back on them in few years time.

Personally would avoid the light grey / silver shades, doesn't look good in dull weather. Some colours look awful when dirty, have a look at some parked cars in your area on both a dull wet day and a bright sunny day, use for your colour shortlist, personally I think the brown looks better than the black, but it's your car so you should choose.

Also look at a couple of threads like the one where people discuss if they ordered again, what would they change (currently on page 3 of thread index) similar one in Octavia section. There are variation threads, option X or Y. Read these as some members explain their reasoning well, so should help you choose.

Hi there and welcome.

Regarding spec depends what your budget is and whether you want driver aids or convenience and bling features.

I've just gone and got myself a SE L Exec and picked extras particular to my needs. I don't have a family to carry around so sunset glass was enough for the rear which comes as standard.

Wheel wise I went 17" for fuel economy, ride quality and cheaper replacement tyres. The five spoke Helios wheels split opinion here but they work for me. Do though pay the £100 for spare wheel piece of mind. I've had occasion to use a can of foam on my last car and although it worked I had to drive home late at night further than the recommended distance and follow town roads slowly rather the motorway.

Do check whatever options you go for you don't find yourself paying as much as the next model up (L&K) as you'll get better resale value on the L&K rather than a loaded SE L Exec.

In the end I added heated front screen for frosty mornings when staying at hotels away from home; a frequent occurrence with my job. Space saver spare kit as mentioned, Canton sound upgrade, which is good, colour maxidot; doesn't cost much and adds a bit extra class to the instrument cluster. And finally probably the best bit is the led interior pack upgrade which looks totally ace and also includes additional led bulb replacement for foot wells.

Whatever you choose I don't think you can go far wrong, but do consider other colours Greys and slivers are going to be the most popular which is fine of you want to go down the Audi fifty shades of grey look!

Have fun choosing.

Thanks for all the helpful replies so far! I will take all onboard I wasn't considering the beige leather as I have young kids! I was considering the white colour what would your thoughts be on this?? Also you mentioned the led option is it worth the money?? And if possible would you have any photos of it?

Thanks again guys I really appreciate all your advice and opinions

Have a look through these pages, many pictures of different coloured cars there http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/367311-the-superb-iii-picture-thread/

Personally I have a silver car as it stays looking cleaner for longer, black looks great when polished but within a day can look like its never been cleaned, even in summer when a light covering of dust shows up.

The SELwith DSG is already a very good spec, personally I wouldn't bother with a heated screen although I did spec it on a VW 6 years ago, nice to have but how many times do you get a frozen windscreen these days - I live way down south so maybe I'm lucky, very few frosts these days if any at all.

I would go for full leather as you have young kids, much easier to wipe clean than Alcantara (Alcantara is composed of about 68% polyester and 32%  polyurethane, according to the internet).

I would have a spare wheel, rear view camera, colour maxi dot, front parking sensors (rear standard) and park assist - I had this on my last car and really miss it. All adds up a bit though cost wise, what do you think you would find most useful?.

How important is audio quality to you? I'm going for Canton despite being a cheapskate.

If "uniqueness" is important, then the others are right - avoid the greys. Do have a look at the colours in the flesh.

I went for dsg sel. Do not forget to add on the dsg steering wheel paddles for £90. They are optional and easy to miss if you've not ordered a Skoda with dsg. I also went for the led interior for the 100 it costs. I also went for 19 inch wheels, sunroof and integrated tow bar.

Just noticed you're in Ireland. The equivalent spec to SEL will be Style (unless you're ordering a UK spec car) and remember the Style model in Ireland has full leather as standard. The standard wheels are 17" so I assume you're looking to go the 18s - I wouldn't go for 19s on Irish roads unless you are opting for DCC.

Colour is such a personal choice and we will all have our own strong opinions but you will have to live with the car at the end of the day. The only objective point I would make is try and match a dark exterior colour with a light interior. This does make the car look very classy and might also help come resale time. Also, don't totally write off beige even with kids as it can be surprisingly easy to keep clean and a lot of the stains and spillages can be easier to get rid of on beige versus black interior.

Agree with Superb170, In Style guise we get Full leather, 17"Alloys (€500 to upgrade to 18"'s) LED interior, Tri-Zone Climatic Control & 10" Touchscreen with Sat Nav Standard on the car. Everything else is personal taste & convenience. I added heated windscreen as I do early morning starts (frost) DCC as I went for the bigger Alloys & our roads are appalling etc. Ive 2 young kids but chose Beige as its leather & the carpets are black so not an issue really if you look after your car. Go with what you need, not what you think will impress other people & if you can afford it don't have regrets after- Spec it!!

Is it 10"? That's impressive, I thought it was an8" screen? Reversing camera included too, with the full Irish specs below:

http://www.skoda.ie/brochures/pricelists/

It's always worth taking a close look at the options as there are often small things that you might assume are included when they are not and these can make all the difference. A wrong click of a mouse can be disastrous! I'm speaking from experience there!

Remember most car salespeople are exactly that, salespeople - that just happen to be selling cars - so their knowledge and interest in cars is often questionable or certainly incomplete (no offence, of course there are many that take the time to keep themselves informed).

Does anyone in the UK buy from Cz these days? Presumably you can get RHD, but I wonder how much costs would differ?

I doubt it when discounts of 21% can be achieved by buying from a UK dealer (through an internet broker)

Back to the OP, do you wash your car regularly to keep it clean?

If not then a silver based light colour will hide the dirt the best, white and dark colours will show the dirt the most.

It is true that some colours change in different light conditions, Magnetic brown, Petrol Blue and Rosso Brunnello (discontinued now) are probably the colours that are most affected by the light conditions.

I ordered Business Grey, I agree that it will probably become very popular and common though, the colour certainly looks almost as good on a dull day as a sunny day and hides the dirt pretty well, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone though.... I don’t want to see all Superbs in the same colour  :D

Is it 10"? That's impressive, I thought it was an8" screen?

Sorry! it is the 8" Columbus Unit, I had 10" on the brain as I was searching for covers for my 2 girls 10" tablets at the time!!
