HELP WITH SIDELIGHTS

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone can help. my sidelights don't work. bulbs changed but no luck. fuses all seem fine. Any ideas?

Thanks

What car? What headlight, black or silver?

Welcome to the forum.

Are the Lights that are DRL's working, and is it these that are not coming on as Sidelights when you put on the Sidelights?

Sometimes a bad connection behind the Unit.

The Bulb in the Headlight Unit is not the Sidelights, and does not come on.

Its a 2011 fabia vrs, and its the bulb in the headlight im looking at, the DRL's seem ok just go dimmer when you turn the headlight on

That is your Side Lights, and parking lights.  Down Low.

You can have them on as DRL's if you choose when no Side Lights are on.

?

So did you take out the Blue Bulb in the Headlight and try that?

Many have so you are not the only one.

The bulbs in the headlight cluster are dummies. They wont work.

The sidelights are where fogs would usually be (:

Well that makes me look daft :) but you learn something new every day! Thanks for your help

Sadly the vRS does not have Front Fog lights even though the Brochures and salespeople said they did.

I had an Auto electrician wire and put sidelight bulbs in the Headlights for me, and i had Fog Lights where the DRL's / Sidelights are

& no DRL's.

(That was until the next crash i had, then i just put it back to standard.)

It is not a big job.

(well it would be for me, but not for the sparky.)

Do you think you could split the feed to the drl's and wire to the bulb in the headlights too? Just seems a waste being there doing nothing

It did nothing for me once i had the Sidelight Bulb working in the headlight other than pass the MOT.

I run with Dipped beam or Full Beam so you do not see the Sidelight anyway.

I never run just on Sidelights.

The real reason i went back to the Original Sidelights was to get the single 'Parking Light' because i use Parking Lights,

and the Sidelight in the headlight was no use.

Funnily enough when I bought mine mine did, I was really confused as to why it had them. I bought the DRL's at £50 a side (:() and put them in to discover the plug behind the fog lights. I've even got fog light symbol on the light switch itself.

Are you saying on your vRS you had the standard LED DRL's AND front fog lights?

I'm assuming I've misread your post as this isn't possible on the vRS as the LED DRL's fill the hole that would otherwise house the fog lights.

What happens when you turn on the front fog lights?

LED DRL's...

Incandescent DRL's and foglights (non-vRS)...

LGM,

And did the sidelights work in the head lamps when someone had fitted Fog Lamps.

What did you have to do to get the DRL's / Sidelights working again.

The Rear Fog light Symbol is on the Light Switch.

No, I may of misread BUT my vrs when I bought it didn't have the DRL's that is shown on the green VRS above, instead it had fog lights only (no DRL's and fog) but the loom was behind the fog light ready to plug in. The fog lights have a different plug to the DRL's but was behind attached the loom.

So had the car no Front Sidelights that operated at that time?

The Rear Fog light Symbol is on the Light Switch.

I have sidelights and I also have the front fog light symbol on my light switch. The sidelights still work now once I switch them on obviously, the DRL's go off. I did take a peek behind the lights and it appears a previous owner has done a slight mod to it somehow.

I'm guessing the W5W side lights in the headlights worked instead.

Nice that the connector for the LED DRL's was behind the fog lights though, allowing you to choose which light units to fit.

Your vRS is pretty unique then, in that when you turn on side lights the LED DRL's go out completely and the W5W bulbs in the headlight come on. This was how they should have left the factory in my opinion, too many people assume the dimmed DRL's are front fog lights and flash their main beam.

Now you have fitted the LED DRL's I assume the fog light setting on the headlight switch doesn't do anything?

I am asking if when someone had modified your car to have Fog Lights they left it with no Front Sidelights, and so it would fail a MOT?

I took it he means now, that he has a DRL/Sidelight unit installed again.

I am asking about when there was Fog Light Units in,

did the Sidelights work in the Headlights, or was there no working sidelights?

ie

Before the Original Lights went back in, did he see the Sidelight Bulbs in the Headlights lighting up!

Pulling the Headlight Switch will be switching the Rear Fog light on you would hope.

The sideligjts did work with the fogs George. Past records say it hasn't failed. I'm guessing it's been modified as wire from the 2nd terminal on the plug from the DRL loom goes to the headlights.

This is with the light switch in the off position

Sorry I missed that bit, yes that's right. It was in the dealers recently and they couldn't understand why it had the switch either. I had to explain :D

Ah, so you have not got the DRL Units you fitted working as a Dual role & on as dimmer & Sidelights now.   Good.

?

What kind of switch does it have,

could you post a pic sometime please.  ta.

If you put on the Parking Lights, does the front sidelight in the head light come on?

My lights are off the DRLs are on, if my sidelights are on the DRLs are off not dimmed. I've also got the switch under the steering wheel fuse box to switch the DRLs on and off. To be honest I've not really thought about that to see so I can't tell you.

It's exactly like a light switch in the VRS but I pull once the fronts use to come on, I pull twice the back does. Obviously the front doesn't work now as the DRLs are plugged in. When I get a nice day I'll pop the lamp off and show the wiring and the 2 looms.

Sorry to the OP for hijacking, I do apologise.
