Fuel tank capacity.

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Does anyone know if skoda changed the capacity of the fuel tank in the vrs TDI.

I was under the impression that it was a 50/55 litre tank and the fuel light would come on when there was roughly 9 litres left therefore giving a usable 41/46 litres of fuel.

My fuel light came on last night (book says should be about 9 litres left), the car took 49 litres to fill back up.

Therefore the tank is either

A. Bigger than specifications in the book and what I have read online.

B. The fuel light comes on when there's only 5 litres left in the tank.

C. Fuel tank is only 50 litres and I very nearly ran out of diesel.

As always any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated.

there is a fairly large airspace which can be vented manually/accidentally  or "ventectomied"   on the older models   as it's not really needed unless it's filled with petrol(when it is)

Octavia II has a 55 litre tank unless its a Scout or 4x4 which has 60.

Thanks for that. That is what the book says. So the fuel light warning in the book is contradictory. As there's no way I used 4 litres of fuel driving less than 1 mile to the petrol station after it came on.

It must come on at 5/6 litres left.

don't take it too seriously   may be someone tweeked the float arm  1/8" (vertically) is quite a bit of volume at the bottom of the tank

I was only looking for exact figures so I could compare fuel consumption like for like with my old car which had a 60 litre tank but only 50 litres was available before the fuel light would come on.

If I can use a similar capacity of fuel (50 litres) between full tank to low fuel light, I can definitely do a fair comparison on volume of fuel as cost can't really be compared as my old car was a petrol engine.

You can't use the fuel light its not accurate, it gets triggered by braking, cornering, etc when all the fuel moves around, the only way to know exactly what fuel you have put in is the on the petrol pump gauge when you brim the tank. I've never known any car to an have accurate fuel light. On older cars from the 1970s and 80s the light would flash as you went round corners etc as it momentarily indicated low fuel, now petrol warning lights have a monostable circuit, so once triggered it stays on until you refuel.

My old car had a fairly accurate fuel light. Its computer also had a function where it would tell you exactly what volume of fuel was in the. This mode was only accessible if the engine was off, turn key to on position while holding a button and it would say. Fuel light on, book said 10 litres left, computer agreed, car took 50 litres to refill. Tank capacity was 60 litres.

I appreciate it may not be an exact science in the octavia, but if I know a rough guide, I can get a reasonable idea of fuel consumption etc.

Thank you for all your advice/comments.

as far as I can remeber it is always 100km left, which translates into around 6l reserve in fuel tank. MIne is 55litres and light comes around 6l remaining. I run to 0.5l of diesel in tank and I top up 55litres
