Possibly stupid question but why not just burn it?

In my younger days we used to get metal tins, fill them with sand and pour in petrol. Although it's be a bit nastier if there's 2 stroke oil in it, if the council won't help what else are you supposed to do?

Little thread creep but can't quite get my head round the council not taking petrol but will take oil? I know it's true they don't, but where do they think petrol comes from? It can only be a volatility issue while it's being stored at the tip until someone collects it.

Conversely you could be economical with the truth and it is in fact oil your disposing of, just happens to have 50 times more petrol in!
