"Taxi!" "I'm not, **** off!"

Featured Replies

My last car was a white Volvo, so from a distance it looked a bit like a police car or - at a pinch, an minicab (there are a few 850s and early V70s around here like that). However, the Octavia DEFINITELY has a reputation as a taxi, in the same way as all the Omegas, Carltons, 600s and similar. I'm fortunate that my Octavia isn't white or black, but driving home last night having only had the car 12 hours, what should I see but students trying to hail me.

Has anyone else suffered this? In particular, late-night journeys through the city centre will be done with locked doors to prevent some ****ed up idiots falling into the back and slurring, "Whitchurrrch R-Rurd, mate". :D

I never had it with my Octavias, but Mondeo, definitely, and even twice when I had a Mitsubishi Galant! They were pretty pi55ed, though.....

Excellent way of earning a bit of extra cash and you have the right to park/stop anywhere :D

There's not that many Octavia taxi's IN Cardiff tho!! It's mainly Omega's, a couple of Nissan QX's, some Mondy's, odd Rover 600, and some of the private hire firms have some Superbs...

Then again, in my Leon I had the party-goers trying to flag me down... Hmmm, modified hot hatch - that's really going to be a taxi, isn't it?!

I had the best of both worlds. The car i've just replaced was a MkII Mondeo in black, so i got mistaken for an unmarked police car many a time, but also, i was constantly trying to be flagged down by the intoxicated, on their way home.

I had someone fall into my passenger seat and repeatedly ask me to "take meeeowwm" while I was waiting for a mate to come back from a cash machine. It was back when I had an old Austin Montego though..

Round here, everyone gets flagged down if you drive round at night at the weekend cause theres no bl**dy taxis when you need 'em!

You could charge TRIPLE after midnite

I get it all the time, then again i have got a for hire sign on the roof.

I see "south Wales" - Not Swansea perchance is it? My first ever ride in a Skoda was in a Taxi there, whilst at uni...and nearly every other taxi ride seemed to be in an Octavia. Being in a TDI one could very well have given me the diesel bug - it went very nicely indeed.

Have to say (obviously) I've never been hailed ever - sometimes get the :finger::D

There's a Superb TDi around here which I always ask for from the local taxi firm. :D

Driving back from a New Year's gig along the border near Brecon, I don't know how he did it but some lonely bloke walking along an otherwise pitch black road tried to hail us at 3am, January 1st. Of course, I barely had time to mutter my disbelief at his attempt before we'd raced past.

A few miles on, two underage looking tarts tried the same.

Finally back to Cardiff an hour later, and people are much bolder about hailing taxis (you have to be, mind) which meant locking the doors to stop drunken revellers hopping in the back at the lights.

My cousins lives just off whitchurch road and we often get taxis from the centre :p are you up for a group buy - maybe like 10trips from the birch grove to ivor house for

It's when you're in a council van (amber lights and all!), and they flag you down or come up to you at lights, ask you if you're dropping people off around the city (in a 2-seater van?? wearing my see-it-from-space yellow jacket? I think not!), and then start trying to pull the handles off the locked doors asking you to take them some place at the other end of the city you know it's going to be a bad shift!!

White Octy, occasionally seen doing 60 to 65 on the inside lane...

occasionally observing brake lights in the outside lane, must remember to pack the high vis jacket for winter driving. :D

Toyota avensis crowd are arguing over the best taxi! One driver is dumping his new avenis for a passat because he doesn't think the new engine is up to it.

I am pleased taxi drivers choose octavias. They must be sturdy in their view

Was in Torquay last night, and every taxi seemed to be an Octavia of estate or hatch variety. Looked more like a Briskoda meet.

People tried to flag me down when I was in my 3 dr G-plate Micra!, even worse they tried when I was in the scooby!

Strangly it hasnt happened yet in my black, diesel Octy....
