Exhaust manifold Cracked

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

This is my first topic on briskoda. As the topic suggests i have a cracked manifold on my mk1 octy vrs and am seeking a suitable replacement.

I've been looking at 2nd hand as the cheaper option due to having spent a small fortune on it this year.

having done a little research my question is will any of the following manifolds fit and is there a difference between them?:

06A253033 AB

06A253033 AL

06A253033 N

Thanks in advance

Phill

Hi and welcome!

I'm not sure on the part number differences, but a quick search brought up this thread

It would suggest you might be better off investing in a performance/upgraded version rather than chancing a second hand one that in all likelihood will also be cracked, then have either the job to do again or to pay someone to do it again.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the performance ones are no better flowing than standard.

A standard is all thats needed really was just unaware of the differences if any between the stock parts under those numbers.

Mine has a rather large crack close to where the turbo bolts on and looks like its been welded previously as its cracked along the old weld. Anything has to be better than what i have.

Thanks for the reply

Not the best picture i know but you can see where it's cracked

"I'm sure I've read somewhere that the performance ones are no better flowing than standard"

- but stainless/tubular steel ones are less crack happy than the cast standard items  :nerd:

Have you priced up a repair?

I suspect the previous repair may have just been a run of weld over the surface, rather than grind out the crack to form a V, then fill with weld.

A repair would be free for me or at least a few beer tokens as i have quite a few friendly welders at work.

Thats why i'm not fussed about buying 2nd hand as i can inspect it and clean it up before fitting to the car.

Any idea who do stainless steel tubular ones?

Virtually all of the Cast aftermarket ones crack a lot quicker than the standard one so personally I wouldn't bother, Relentless did do a stainless one(not sure if they still do) was supposed to flow well but not sure what the life expectancy is like.

You can get your standard manifold ported. I was lucky enough to score a brand new manifold for not a lot of money, I forget the part number, which I promptly had modified before I fitted it to the car.

So anybody know if there is a difference at all?

I'm just looking for a standard replacement.

From my Pug 205 GTi days I know that the welding guys have problems repairing cast iron manifolds.

Wasn't really planning to weld it. have just bought one off of a 98 golf gti but it has the 06A253033 N code for £26 inc postage, but it is crack free. Just wondered if manifold is the same for k03 / k03s...

Ok so I have the new manifold now but it looks like 2 of the bolt holes are smaller than the rest. So 11 are 8mm and 2 are 6mm. Is this right??

Think the vernier i was measuring with was not set to zero correctly so they are in fact 11-off at 10mm and 2 off at 8mm

Just checked my spare manifold(AB) one of the corner holes and one hole that is on 2nd or 3rd runner are slightly smaller than the rest, the holes are an oval shape and the smaller one on the 2/3 runner points in a different direction to the rest. Hope that helps.

Yes it does I think it's the same. It just came from an older car so the holes are round except 1 on the corner which is obround. I think they are larger to allow the manifold to flex when it heats and cools.
