Love the vRS but some issues....

Featured Replies

Have had my vrs for over a month now and loving it. Had the complimentary 1500km service a week ago and had some minor niggles addressed. The rear wiper was arcing too far and hitting the paintwork, so they adjusted it. The glovebox light was working intermittently - fixed. Front passenger door handle was very stiff - lubed and fixed.

In the last couple of days I've noticed a couple of things that I will probably have Skoda look at:

1) There appear to be several dark spots that have developed under the clear coat on the front drivers side guard above the tyre. 5-6 spots maybe 2-3mm in size. Almost looks like acne and definitely under the clear coat. They are slightly raised so my nail can catch the spots.

2) If I do a full lock u-turn, either left or right, I'm getting a whirring noise from the front wheels/suspension/diff.

3) Opening the hatch when there's been rain results in a lot of water draining off the rear windscreen back into the car - very annoying and probably not something that can be addressed.

Finally, does anyone have a weather shield installed on the drivers window and is it worth doing?

Please let me know if you have any ideas on these issues. Cheers.

1 is not normal. Sounds like a paintwork issue.

2 and 3 are normal. The noise you are hearing on full lock id bet any O3 will do it. The tailgate design on the Mk3 (same as the Mk2) isnt all that clever and leads to water ingress....its down to the "liftback" design.

You can get wind deflectors for the O3, gather Heko ones are the ones to get.

1) I have similar spots on my spoiler that have led to blemishes and big problems for some other members on here.
2) Noise on full lock - is it a mechanical whirring that you hear whether you're moving or not, or only when the car is moving? Mine makes a plasticy whirring/clicking noise when I move at full lock.

3) Same here, it's annoying having to keep wiping everything down

I had wind deflectors on my previous car and they made a lot more noise and seemed to increase buffeting when I opened the windows. I like the look of them on a car but I wouldn't bother again imho.

The water on tailgate on my mk2 was a pain. If I remembered and had time, I would open it slowly to try to limit the water. Try not to put coats etc at the sides, that's about all you can do. Have estate now.

Get the same on our estate with the back doors, open em up after rain and it all runs in the car on the seat!

1. This needs closer inspection and rectifying.

2. This is normal and the car telling you it's reached the end of the lock.

3. This was a problem with previous hatch models....I used to keep a cloth inside the boot for quick wipe ups to stop water heading into the rear speakers!

Use this on the tailgate. http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/891119/reviews.htm

Run a strip down each side of the glass but cut it 5mm short at the roof end to leave a gap so that when you lift up the tailgate the water runs towards the roof then down the channel inside the tailgate. Doesn't eliminate the problem completely and still works better if you open slowly, but does stop most of it!

Just spotted that it says no longer available at Halfords online, maybe a visit to the store or there is similar stuff on eBay!

That reminded me, I put the door edging strip on my mk2 hatch. I tried thinking of ways to block the channel at each end where the lower edge of rear screen meets the tailgate as this collects water, but I think it would just retain the water like a dam, then overflow when opening the tailgate. Serious design flaw. Can't believe they hadn't found this out before designing the Mk3.

Thanks all for your replies. Car is booked in with Skoda for mid-Feb to look at the paint issue and front end whirring noise. Might try the weather strip on the hatch to stop the water.

Also going to get them to look at the front passenger side wiper, as it is not resting where it should when wiper are off. I.e. It is stopping about an inch above where it should.

Thanks again.

Just take care not to become too OCD about it....I suspect a few of the things you are asking about...particularly the whiring noise arent issues at all.

Im much the same in truth...having had a few niggly issues with my new GTD but you can end up just looking for things if that makes sense.
