Fabia 1 keyfob help required.

Featured Replies

Hi all, its been a while since ive been here (a good thing for my wallet) but here I am again.

My keyfob just packed up the other day and I assumed it was the battery. I replaced it but now the light either doesnt come on when i press either of the buttons or the led comes on and stays on till i take out the battery.

Do I need a new fob? If so how do I go about it, do I need one from a dealer or can I get a used one from a scrappy and program it, if so how do I match it to the car?

Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like the pushbutton contacts are dodgy, you could strip it down and clean it up with contact cleaner and see if that helps.

Strange, id assume its been put back together wrong if anything.

All you really need out of your old key is the transponder chip, usually a very small glass tube (can be tricky to remove)

you can use any key aslong as its the same obviously, second hand, ebay or dealers.

The RFID capsule is not related to the central locking, only the immobiliser, it's not powered so as long as it's present the car will start.

Locking the car with the key as opposed to the fob, the immobiliser doesnt operate....well the light doesn't flash in the door anyway. Im a bit bemused by it to be honest.

The immo operates; what doesn't/won't operate is the deadlocks and any VAG alarm fitted.

i'd try some of the locksmiths for a price. Timsons quoted me £100 for a bog standard key( mine is pov spec model. ) but 5hey only do them at larger branches. i've also been quoted £40 for a fully programmed key or £15 for just a door opening one, by a local high street place locally. But no idea of price for a central lock remote/key combined. i agree with Ken, the Immo is what is read off the key.

The contacts idea is also usefull, but I'd use Optical cleaning clothes to get rid of the gunge that can form on the PCB type switches. Leaves no residue. But- to be on the safe side, for safety of any ICs in the fob- discharge any static, by touching something like the bare metal on a house radiator ,before touching the insides. Also- if the battery  is a button cell  type, make sure it's in correctly and making proper contact with the contacts. If it's a camera type - they can cause problems in making contact. I've a cheapo DVM I keep in the car, and  few times I've used it- battery had worked loose.
