Help! New to here and after some help with my Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi, Recently upgraded my fabia VRS (2004) to an Octavia MK2 tdi VRS (second hand). At the time I didn't notice the glow plug light was not illuminating; so used to diesels. A friend has got an error message "can not connect to glow plug" for all four. Check the fuse and that's ok

Any idea on the cause? Could it be the relay?

If it is a relay where is it in the car?

I'm an engineer so I can check the relays but no idea where they are.

The weather is set to get colder soon and worried it might not start on me.

What year octavia vrs did you buy? The glow plug warming light only illuminates for seconds on my 2012 vrs.

It is common for it to only illuminate briefly unless the air temperature outside is well below 1 Celsius.

I would check carefully next time you start the car, it may be that it illuminates and extinguishes so quickly you don't notice it.

It's a 2006 Octavia.

The light doesn't come on at all, not even a flicker.

This morning the temp was 3.5degree so the glow plugs would be required (I think they cut in around 5 ish) but nothing. :(

Took the car to a local skoda garage and got the "it's either the relay or the glow plug loom".

Replacing the relay is a clean job and shouldn't be too hard to do, so I will have a go. However I can not find any information on where it is.

Any ideas?

I know it's in the engine bay somewhere :)

The picture don't work but the general description does.

I will be having a go tomorrow.

Fingers cross this fixes it.

No problem.

Trouble with pics uploaded to a 3rd party host - they usually disappear after a while.

Good luck with the relay

Well replacing the relay didn't work :(

I now have warning lights in the dash that won't go out

  • 2 weeks later...

I realised the light go out if you drive it at 10ish mph and turn the steering wheel.

I still have the fault and the weather did get cold and the car did struggle to start so I bite the bullet so to speak and took the car to a local Skoda garage. After a day in the garage I have been told It's not the relay or the wiring or the plug but the ECU. Poo!!
