Your original post seems to have gone astray, what's the problem?

DPF = Living nightmare!! Summed up perfectly.

Looks like a 2007 vRS according to the OP's profile.

I know exactly what the issue is, the DPF is knackered. In fact I'm surprised it's lasted this long.

The PD170 engine is THE worst engine in the VAG range for DPF issues, not helped by poor injector replacements during the VOSA recall.

Go to Shark (forum sponsor) and pay the £450 to have it opened up, it's insides removed, welded back up and the sensors mapped out. It'll be the best thing you do, it'll be like a new car and it'll still pass the MOT.

I also had a 2007 vRS and the DPF spoilt the car.

It might be a dodgy sensor, but even so I'd still remove the DPF, it won't be looking good at 9 years old.

Well said and couldn't agree more. Great car ( remapped anyway ) totally ruined by those awful things. And to be fair the newer diesels have DPF issues as well. Maybe not quite as bad but problems exist. In the short time i owned my pd vrs it constantly regenerated even on long journeys. I just couldn't win with it. And the final straw came when i was having to take it for drives at 6 a.m after working a nightshift!! I wish I'd removed it when i had it mapped but i was worried about the m.o.t which looks like a red herring now.

if you are people idiots why do you wonder DPF fails?

turbocharged diesel cars are not designed for short trips. it takes 30km to warm up engine at 0deg C. diesel engine is designed to run long distances at constant optimal revs

I can get my vrs pd170 to register 50 mpg on the trip computer just as I pull into my work in the morning it's only 10 miles from my house not to bad for a diesel that shouldn't do short trips .
