cambelt kit

Featured Replies

Hello.

Just about to do my cambelt change.

I have a skoda fabia 1.9 tdi ATD engine. 52plate.  5 door hatch.

Does any one know if my engine needs a tensioner pulley damper as euro car parts are showing two kits.  One with and one with out.

Also slightly off topic. My chassis code is 6y3. is that wrong.

Your car must be on the change over year I suppose, early engines have the damper set up,later ones don't.

Only option if they can't narrow it down with Reg etc is to pull top cover off and take a look, pretty sure you should be able to see.

Basically the same as above, easiest way is to just pull the cover and have a look. my 2001 ATD had the damper.

I went to TPS and they said theres only one kit for my car based on my reg.

The tensioner they gave me appears to be different to the one in my car.

The TPS man said the one they sold me should fit my car. Is this right?

The one they want to sell you is the one with the dampener. The one fitted in that picture is an automatic tensioner one.

ok thanks for the quick reply. I'll head back for a refund then. MIght have to make a trip to eurocarparts then.

It could be that the cambelt on your car has already been replaced and that the wrong pulley was fitted at the time, the pulley in the picture does not look like a genuine part.

Hmm.

Well i bought the car at 92k . Its ex police car and they changed the cambelt at 60k.

I then bought the kit from ecp and paid a mechanic to change it at 100k. I cant remember exactly what kit i bought but i dont remember them questioning whether or not i had a damper.

Its now on 164k. I might just strip it down and have a good look.

That'll be it then, the ECP kit is generally a Dayco kit with inferior quality pulleys, the pulley you've bought from TPS should fit in its place just fine.

Does the damper come in the kit?

If not you'll have to get another.

I know for a fact the cambelt backing plates are different on a damper set up compared to a auto adjuster,as had to swap mine over when did engine swap.

The car could be running on a replacement engine out of a later car too,if so the damper won't fit without getting a new cambelt backing plate.

As above, you can't swap between them really, if the one that's fitted now works ok, just use that same kit again, dayco are fine.

Cheers for the advice.

I've had a really good look to the left of the tensioner and I cant see any damper. So i'm just going to replace it with whats already there like for like.
