Looking at a 2014 VRS

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

Just a quick question. I'm going to see a Octavia VRS tomorrow after having had my Fabia Monte Carlo for 3 years.

Any advise you could give and if anything to look out for? I have never drove a VRS Octavia before. It's a 2014 2.0TDI version, and I have asked if its one of the engines effected with the emissions situation but they said no. Supposedly the car is a ex staff car, and it's done 14K miles.

Thanks for any advice Octavia owners.

Stu.

The main thing to check obviously is to ensure you get the possible deal, which means researching what else is available for similar money. Not just sticker price but also monthly payments. Also compare price and spec with new to see how much buying at 2 years old actually saves you when you consider extra running costs on used cars such as tyres, MOT and out of warranty repairs. There's currently an extra loyalty bonus of £1k off new cars if you own a Skoda. Don't think this applies to used ones, so if you're buying used make sure you use it to screw the price down as much as possible.

The Octavia vrs is a great car in my opinion, but it's not for everyone. Some complain about cabin noise and a choppy ride. If you can get over these things there won't be much else that will bother you. Make sure you get a decent test drive, and be sure to check the usual stuff such as tyre tread depth, any evidence of damage. Also check the service history.

Hi.

Best of luck for tomorrow.

The car won't be affected by the emissions problem.

Being a diesel and 14k Young at that, it's bedding in so should drive well.

Many of the concerns with buying a second hand car don't exist as you still have a fair lump of the manufacturers warranty remaining, I would look more for cosmetic issues (dings, dents and scratches) knowing that you have at least a year to beat your stealer up over more fundamental issues.

The diesel is quite torquey and pulls well, you don't mention whether manual or DSG, if it's DSG, the marriage to a Diesel engine can take a little getting used to so take it for a good, long drive.

All in all, it should (should) be absolutely fine.

Enjoy and report back...

The octy 3 tdi's are on effected by the emission thing as they have the EA288 engine in them

Thing to look for are the door seals can hold water in there a modified seal that fixes it

The seat belts can rub and cut the plastic in the adjustment part of the seat belt

Some vRS TDI have had the boot sensors play up

Check the alloys for curbing as it can be a lot of money to repair

I had my octy vRS TDI for about 2 years now and love it it's only been to the dealer for it service I've had know problem with my vRS some people have.

Thank you all for the replies.

It's a manual gearbox that's in it and I'll be sure to check the things you have all suggested.

They were offering me 2 years warranty, 2 years breakdown, 2 years servicing and £500 dep contribution as part of the deal but I'll be sure to have a look around and see what else I could get for similar money and monthly costs.

Thanks.
