What is the standard idle for the TFSI?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just picked up a 2009 VRS with the TFSI engine and noticed the idle revs seem high at 900rpm and are quite rough, this disappears if I drive or just blip the throttle whilst idling.

Is this normal with the TFSI engine or does this seem higher than you'd expect?

Thanks

Could it be a fuel issue?

Shouldn't the petrol vrs be run on at least 97 Ron fuel?

I am no expert but super unleaded definitely helped my old car.

And I am sure I read a post on this very forum that vag recommended a minimum of 97 Ron fuel in their vehicles.

It is recommended for my A4, but the Tfsi will (should) run fine on 95ron.

Having said that I have always used super 97 without issues.

Unless it is a different engine, I have no idle problems so if it is the same (similar) engine then it could be the 95ron causing the issues, if this is being used.

I did put 95 in as the filler cap had 95 written in it. I'll run this tank low then try with 97 and give 97 a go and see. If not I'll have a look at the fixes silver1011 linked to.

Thanks guys

I run my car mostly on 95ron, filling with 97 or Tesco 99 every 3rd or 4th fill. I do 20k miles a year, so always putting the 97 or 99 works out quite expensive. Never had a problem with uneven idle with either fuel. With a previous Mazda sport 2.0 petrol, it developed an uneven idle with a small hint of uneven running at 2000revs. Tried new plugs, coil pack, cleaning throttle body and maf sensor, nothing cured it. Turned out it was the EGR valve coked up. New valve fitted and it ran smooth again.

2009, is probably a TSI engine, especially if it says 95 on the fuel flap.

If it is, they don't benefit from using higher octane ratings.

I think it's the tsi engine as its a fl late 2009 model, Is that right?

It's chain not belt.

The octane rating just references pressure and precombustion doesn't it?

All 3 of out 2.0 TSi's run on 95 octane, as per the filler cap door, 'cos there;s only 95 & diesel available locally.

When they were re-mapped, they were "set" for 95 & we've had no problems.

As for idle speed, it's fast for a few seconds after start-up & then settles down to an even idle.

What rpm for the idle though, mine sits around 900-950rpm, does that sound about right?

My tfsi idles at 750rpm when its come off auto choke. It doesnt fluctuate from this once its settled doen. It could well be the pcv valve with idling high and being a little rough.

I'm going to get one ordered and swap it over as soon as I get a chance to go to the parts dept at local my local skoda see if it helps

That's a bit high, 750-800 rpm seems usual. I'll check next time I use the car.
