Fitted vogtland springs and damper - OUCH

Featured Replies

Oh dear.... oh dear oh dear..

Thanks for your obvious concern, I've changed my mind in light of useful information from chris-H, it's the bumpstops that won't fit and aren't needed, scroll up to keep up.

  • Whilst that is true, you should have bump stops fitted regardless of if that's causing the noise or not.

  • As above, you need bumpstops whatever! So as we feared on your other thread regarding fitting these, your m8 that 'knows' what he's doing obviously knows jack **** and should not be volunteering to hel

  • You need bump stops regardless. It sounds to me having just repaired a car with similar fault that it is bumpstops

Chris I agree with you on this but is there really a need to make 4 posts and not using edit?

Btw I've got H&R on my Octy and pistons on rear have some repair done with epoxy thing as there were run without gaiters and something damaged the slightly. As the car is lower it's not even visible anyway.

Hey dara if it takes four posts to save someone a 350 quid mistake then so be it. It's called " help ".

Get a grip man!

Thanks for 'chipping' away at me chris  , I've ordered some new VAG genuine gaiters. Less than a tenner delivered.

No probs, it was a costly mistake for myself. Bilstein wouldn't honour the warranty after mine failed within weeks because the bellows weren't fitted. When we removed the failed pair there was literally 2 or3 pinprick spots where the chrome had been pitted. Because of the mono shock design it's enough for the seal to fail.

I think the confusion when fitting this kit to the fabia is the fact that you don't fit any bumpstops on the fronts so logically there isn't anything for the bellows to mount onto at the top of the strut. They just sort of sit loose until you put weight on wheels and they compress.

The crazy thing is that the B12 kit comes with them supplied for many other vehicles.

Enjoy the ride when fitted!

its only a dust seal on the top of the tube on the inverted ones really the damper unit has its own oil/pressure seal on the smaller shaft inside but on a road car I personally would run the bellows, the rally car ones are stripped and regreased every 200 miles or so lol but I have heard the Bilstein stuff has gone down hill in the quality stakes recently too.

This thread is so off topic i have no idea what it is supposed to be about! Must remember to not open this one again!
