Cd changer maybe dead or maybe duff operator?

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I've just got myself a VRS and absolutely loving it.

A couple of issues tho, when selecting cd 1 thru 6 an the dash head unit I dont get errors just track starting at 99 minutes on all tracks and cd's?

I cant load or eject anything form the unit ,not even sure its powered up, is there any easy check?

It's the single slot type that i assume you load one by one , but holding the load button and gently trying to insert a cd , it wont let it in?

If someone else has the same unit ,how is it loaded /ejected?

Rear wiper also not moving so is there a common fuse?

Sorry for all the questions ,thanks

If the rear wiper isn't working, it's possibly leaked onto the CD changer.

Thanks for the reply, the rear washer sprays ok just wont move, I've had a quick look and can't see any damp patches?

I'm hoping theres a common fuse , any thoughts?

If you press the load button, can you hear any mechanical movement inside the changer?

I do not think you have to 'hold' the load button though, just press, then insert one CD. Press, then insert another. Could be wrong though.

Maybe the OEM changer has been disconnected and an X-Carlink or simillar fitted instead. Would explain the lack of operation of the changer itself, and the 99 track thing.

Look in the glovebox or centre storage box for any aftermarket looking boxes/cables.

The two issues are unlikely to be connected as the Bolero has a front loading CD changer, the multi-changer in the boot (immediately adjacent to the leaky washer pipe) were mainly fitted to the pre-FL Octavia's.

The weak rear wiper motor should have been listed in the brochure as a feature as it's that common.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry i should have been clearer ,

I have the stream cd changer in the boot.

No sign of any aftermarket cabling anywhere.

Thanks Tilt, no noise when I press the buttons to load a cd, should there be any illumination button wise , I have nothing with the lights and engine running?

The unit should illuminate. Makes me wonder if it's been disconnected at the head unit.

Are you sure that someone hasn't fitted an AUX in that replaces the CD changer like a Connects2 unit? They emulate the CD changer and show up as 99 min on all tracks/cds.

There is a parrot attached , would that have the same effect?

Sorry for missing that out of my previous description , I was getting carried away thinking it was linked to my non functioning rear wiper.

HI Softscoop,

Sorry for my ignorance , what would I be looking for as regards a  connects2 unit, I cant see anything out of place or after market other than the Parrot?

Never notice mine illuminated (possibly not so noticeable in daylight), but 'no noise', equals not connected or not working. (probably the first).

Good luck with it.

Is it a Stream or Stream MP3 head unit?

If it's a plain Stream (with no MP3 written on) then my vote goes to an Aux adapter having being fitted which tricks the head unit into thinking the CD changer still works and allows you to plug in an aux source but the side effect being it shows track 99 (max number of tracks).

If you have Stream (not MP3) and there is an aux plug somewhere then there's your answer.

Hi Phil,It's the standard stream unit , no mp3 , shame. Would the parrot ck3100 need a aux connection .

I'm loath to take it apart to check as at the no absolutely no squeaks or rattles, very impressed with the car build so far(not including the rear wash wiper and seat belt bong but that's another story) .

The parrot Bluetooth shouldn't replace the CD changer so I doubt it's that.

Is there a USB or 3.5mm jack in the glove box?

There shouldn't be as standard and if there is you know there will be something plugged into the CD changer port.

I think the easiest way would be to pull the radio out and have a look at what's in the back.

The radio is very easy to remove with just 4 screws holding it in.

Apologies to all, you were all spot on in your fault finding..

I dropped my keys down by the handbrake and low and behold fishing about I came across an ipod usb,why under the seat I have no idea.

Shame i dont have any apple gear.lol

Thanks very much everyone that helped

Cheers Andrew

Glad you found the cause of it!

You could maybe buy a cheap second hand ipod off ebay to use for music in the car?

Easier than messing around with CDs in the changer.

I was thinking of maybe putting this in ,anyone had any experience with the unknown from china stuff?

maybe too cheap head unit

I would give that a miss personally.

Better off finding one of the units that is desinged as a direct replacement (same shap as the Octavia stereo).

As most of them also include the necessary CAN communications to turn on and off properly and display climate and parking sensor info.

The one you linked to also has a normal wiring harness and bare wires. The Octavia has an SOT wiring connector.

Thanks for the advice ,for now i'm going to reconnect the cd changer and save a bit of dosh for a quality head unit, after some sporty tires and a bluefin.lol
