Can old and new sound card drivers clash ???

Featured Replies

Am re wording a previous post here...Have just replaced the motherboard on my pc which has on board sound and new drivers to go with it...my old mb also had onboard sound and the drivers are still there for it.....could the two drivers be clashing ??? the reason i ask is that i have lost the volume from my speakers..they still work but not nearly as loud as they were before.....

Two drivers could potentially conflict, and it's always recommended to uninstall the old drivers and then install the new drivers :D Not sure if that would lead to a volume problem though ... worth checking the Windows software volume control just to make sure it's turned up (mine wasn't by default!) :D

 Yup, that's all I can think of right now too. Let us know how you get on.

Have a quick look in the BIOS to make sure the onboard sound is enabled.

It usually is but I have had one motherboard where it wasnt

Notoriously problematic, soundcards.

Also check you have the speakers plugged into the right socket. If its a newer motherboard chances are that it will have a number of outputs, including front/read/sub and maybe even a lineout for connection to a hifi

yep check your connections although if replacing a motherboard I would generally recommend you re-install the operating system. The heart of your pc has changed and I wouldnt start trying to resolve issues without a re-install. Too many different things have changed in your system to be trying to diagnose issues.
