Featured Replies

i dunno, them metro's were uber played with and they never really caught up :)

what car was the video taken in?

Sounds like a monster..

looks like a metro to me

may be quick, but at the end of the day, it's still a shіtbox metro...think how much time/money/effort it took to make it nearly as quick as a cossie. what a tard

errr it looked faster than the cossie ;)

I wouldnt under-estimate a metro..

there were a couple @ anglesey last year... the 1.8 K series engine drops straight in... 160bhp and sub 800kg... and they handled!!

think it was a serria cosworth

Yup , it's a sierra dashboard

Pity the drive of the camera car was an awful driver - he might have done better if he could keep it on the racing line himself. The Metro certainly shifted, obviously driven by someone pretty skillful too.

This is the kind of track day I avoid like the plague - whats with all the passing on bends? and the Cosser trying to do the Tiffany Dell sideways thing on a bone dry circuit.

more like the driver of the metro was better than the driver of the camera car. where did the escort cosworth go...?

Out of interest , how fast were Cossies (both sierra and escrot) in standard form?

poor driving in the camera car TBH, got too exited by a 4 wheel slide that lost him about 3 seconds and probably looked pish from outside the car

My metro never went that fast  - then it is the 1.1 petrol :D

Must have spent a fortune on it as the handling of the 1.4 wasn't too great either.

Not actually that fast by modern day standards. The Sierra IIRC was the faster of them - the Sapphire Cosworth I believe was the fastest variant of all, doing around 150 mph.

The Escort RS Cosworth does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, 0-100 in 17 seconds, and 137 mph - which is actually pretty similar in accelerative performance to modern hot hatches like the Clio 182 and CTR.

Just had a quick nose , and just over 200bhp for the standard and 225 for the RS500 sierras and escort cossies.

Hardly earth shattering figures considering the reputation they had at the time.

Now 10 years on you get "ordinary" family hatchbacks with that sort of power.

Having listened to the Cosworth mob harp on for years about how wonderful they were and how there's nothing quicker today and how when modified they were the fastest and blah blah blah there was a test on TV - standard STi vs quickest Escort Cosworth in UK - the STi wiped the floor with it.

Most overrated car ever IMHO.

Edit: The Cossie was extremely modded and the STi was completely standard.

Do you know who modded it? AFAIK, the Reyland Escort Cossie is the most modded Cossie in the UK and that would leave an STi for dust ... well, with 700-odd bhp, you'd kind of expect that ;)

I did see a test (Clarkson's Full Throttle DVD?) with Clarkson and VBH racing an Escort Cossie against an STi-V (both standard I believe) and there was very little in it round the course. I'll see if I can dig it out! :D

same company done that metro :D

Think it was Awesome GTi (might be wrong - several years ago) - one of the Max Power type mob anyway.

I used to have a Metro GTI MPI that had been ported and polished, 4 branch etc. It was around 110hp weighed F/A. I bought it as a P/X when i used to work at a Skoda dealer. It was a winter car it was very fast, but a **** box of a car. I sold it as i feared for my life - so i sold it to my cousin :D.

I challenged him with an Octavia vRS - and lost :(

So one built for the track will be scary !

Top video, despite the dodgy cossie driver.

didn't reylands cossie go head to head with a fireblade ?realed in and passed the bike, eventually.

no idea but it was chuffing quick till it went bye bye on the cannonball/gumball

WAS the most modded cossie!!

It got smashed to bits on one of those cannonball type runs!!!

Whoops!!

Back in the day, the cossie WAS one of the fastest and probably ultimate quick car, but that was a very long time ago, comparing to an sti or the like is pointless IMO, you might as well compare a Triumph Dolomite Sprint to a Nissan Skyline GTR, we all know what would win, as we would if you compared a mk1 fiesta Xr2 to a Fabia VRS!, poor Fabia would be trounced!! :sofahide: ;)
