heated front seats

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia Combi SLX TDI. The right seat heating works fine. The driver's seat (left) doesn't do a thing. On this forum I only found tips about loose connectors and/or bruised wires. Of course I already had checked these possibilities (I am into electrics and electronics).

  • There is only one fuse, one seat is working, so the fuse is all right.

  • There are two relays, marked "59", one clicks audibly upon turning on the switch/thermostat, the other doesn't click. Exchanging the two relays doesn't make a difference. Conclusion: it's not a relay.

That leaves the switch and the wiring from switch to relay. Or do I forget something?

  • All resistances of the left and right section of the switch show identical values. Of course they are measured at a low current. That could make a difference.

  • Every corresponding point in the two relay sockets has an indentical voltage (or resistance to mass) when the two switches are in the same position ("5").

And here my inspiration stops...

The relays are electronic ones, probably to make temperature adjustment possible. I don't know what is inside.

Does anyone have any more sugggestions? And does someone have a detailed electrical diagram showing this part of the wiring?

Any help is welcome! And please forgive the many mistakes in my English!

Have you checked the resistance of the seat heaters themselves? Could it be that the heater pad in the seat itself gone open circuit.

Apparently (according to other threads on here) it is very easy to remove the seats from an Octavia. You could swap them over temporarily to test the seat itself.

Or, can you swap the connectors on the back of the switches? Or is it one connector to both switches? (in order to test if it's the switch at fault)

Thanks for the suggestion. Because the one relay doesn't click, I don't expect the resistance of the actual heater is an issue.

The switch is equipped with one long connector. I've figured out that the 12V supply is in the middle, then the illumination and the on/off and temperature setting to the two outsides. With a multimeter all voltage and resistance levels are identical for right and left.

But a diagram would be most welcome to see where I am going wrong!

I have just the same problem in my Fabia. The driver's seat doesn't work. I checked the switch. There is a regulated resistor and it seems to be OK. The voltages are correct on the switch.

The passenger's seat works fine.

I still got the problem so if you find out what to do, please let us know.

Best wishes
