Fabia Cup holders - An Alternative!

Featured Replies

As I spend at least 20 hours a week in my car, I need cup holders. The time passes so much more quickly if you are in the prescence of a tall double latte. As the Fabia VRS came fitted with none (None that are any good...) I decide to fit one.

I bought the £35 cup holder to go to the left of the stereo and broke the thing putting it in. I am not proud of this and I am not normally ham fisted but it broke and I was left swearing as I had to put the dash back together minus the much needed cup holder and £35 poorer :mad:

Then I took a look at ebay and found something much better;

This is apparently out of a Lupo or Arosa (Part Number 6XO 857 558 or 6XO 857 558 A), and it is a standard DIN slot fitting which means that it will fit in that cavity under the stereo with very little work! I didn't really take photos durning the actual installation (Although I will when I do anything like this in future) but here are some of it fitted;

To fit one of these you need to do the following;

  • Take the new unit and remove the two plastic lugs on the top corners of the unit as these will not fit in the hole. A sharp knife will do this or better still a junior hacksaw.
  • Remove the existing tray noting that your stereo COULD drop at this point as it does support it
  • Slide the New unit in taking care that the stereo is lined up correctly, there are no wires in the way and the guide spike on the back of the unit lines up with the hole at the back of the cavity

The whole operation takes ten minutes. I paid £36 for this unit (It is new), which compared to the Skoda effort it was a bargin. I couldn't tell you what a dealer would charge for this but the part number is above.

Hope you have found this useful

I want one !!

Nice! Wasn't there a group buy on these a while back?

I was gonna have one but wasn't sure if it would get in the way of my car-kit cradle? When you get a chance could you take a pic from the passenger seat side, particularly of the area where the slide-out holder can go? Just so I can see if it will catch. Cheers :thumbup:

Steve

Is this a VW part? or can it be bought from a Skoda dealer?

I do believe it is, fitted to Lupos and Polos originally? So it would have to be bought from a VW dealer.

Steve

I think the person who did the GB has some left, I remember reading it the other day.

I've seen this in Walkies car, and they are fine.

But imo, the one to the left of the stereo is much classier, and looks more OEM. Hence thats the one I have.

I also have the one that replaces the ashtray in the back. :thumbup:

Got the part number for the ashtray-replacing one handy? Not gonna be using the ashtray anyway and it seems like a good replacement for it.

I've got the dual tray version in mine, and SWMBO has managed to break the spring-damping in hers (i.e. it comes out a bit quick :P ) - Still hoping to refit the original cubbie thing underneath the aircon controls by doing a little hacking, but not had much luck yet.

Yep, would be interested in the part no. and price for the rear ashtray replacement one as well Tom :thumbup:

Steve

I had a look at the Fabia-vrs.com site (Stu's site IIRC) and he's got part numbers etc for all except for that rear-ashtray-replacing one :(

If no-one has posted it by Wednesday I'll try to post it back & PM Stu the details as well, as the car is going in for a service on Wednesday :)

I have this (similar) unit in mine - Its a cupholder on the right hand side, and a money tray (or whatever else is small) on the left hand side. :cool: I like it a lot. :D

The rear cupholder is a doddle to fit. Pull out the ash tray, pop in the cup holder. Looks nice too, and still has a nice little cubby :thumbup:

I can take pics if anyone wants them.

It is part number 6YO85796247H - "ashtray", and costs

That number is '6Y0 857 962 47H £17.48 ashtray with housing' according to me. Are you sure that's the right part for the cup holder?? It's on there now anyway.

The numbers for the storage draw are here - http://www.fabia-vrs.com/parts.htm

I am away for most of this week now but I'll ask about some prices, I did nudge him about the other stuff for you Tom

Thanks :)

The only thing with all these cup holders is that they are not big enough to hold the 500ml bottles that you get the lucozade sport in. I drink loads of these and have to put the bottle between my legs.

DOH.

cheers

Can this cubby hatch door be bought here? Part No?

Can be bought' date=' or is standard fit (as is the rear drinks holder) on the Elegance trim Fabia, so you might be able to source one from [url']www.skospares.com[/url] or a scrappy cheaper :D

Chris

SWMBO - can anyone help me with this one, its doing my head in!

Is this the same;

Its for the Polo.... Looking at it though, fitted to a fabia the cup holders would point down at a slight angle.....

Yes and not really.

It's just the outer bit of the draw that is tilted. it still holds the cup/bottle level and safe.
