need help with my Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi Limited Edition!

Featured Replies

Hey guys :)

I put my 2008 Limited Edition Fabia into a garage for a new alternator belt and tensioner, back brake shoes and cylinders and a handbrake cable. Long story short, I drove it home to find I had no interior lights, dashlights, headlights or taillights. Got it home, switched it off and on again for every single warning light come on on my dash. I then found I had no power steering and the car won't start and stay on unless the clutch is down and I give it high revs. It has been into 3 garages since and still no answers, all they can tell me is that under a diagnostic, it is flagging up as alternator, power steering, turbo, ecu faults. My only option is to put it into Skoda (which is going to cost an arm and a leg) but thought I would ask for your thoughts on here. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you :)

It's not much to go on other than a list of symptoms.

I wasn't aware there, was a Limited Edition MK2 Fabia, but seeing as its a PD and 2008 it means it's an early MK2. Problems are certainly electrical by the sounds of things, there is,some diagnostic work that needs to be done. Seeing as the alternator belt and tensioner has been changed are they both still fitted and working correctly? In all seriousness a visit to a main dealer may not cost an arm and a leg, get them to have a look for an agreed amount of time at a fixed cost, at least it's a start. I would be the fault is going to be pretty obvious by the sounds of it to someone who knows the car well.

Who was it at doing the work.?

You must have thought they were qualified.

Best put it no place until you speak with them, ask who they are going to employ that is competent to repair the car and ask who

they are insured with. See what is what.

1 garage doing the work and 3 garages since,  any reason for all this?

You kind of stuffed your self with so many messing about and achieving nothing.

Agreed.

if it was working (other than the original fault) when you took it in, and its all over thr place when you got it back, its their issue to sort really.

Or at least prove otherwise.

I have been advised by trading standards to get it into a garage to find out what the problems are and so far none of the garages have been able to diagnose the issue. The garage that did the original work refuse all liability and did not want the hassle of trying to repair what they did wrong. I can't do jack about reporting them until I find out what's wrong with it but when I finally have some answers, trading standards can then intervene. I'm losing my mind, my car was my pride and joy! Thanks for the advice, will hopefully get it into Skoda by the end of the week and will keep you posted :)

Maybe give a wee clue as in where are you.

Putting it into a Skoda Dealership in Scotland can be very hit or miss, like you might want to avoid a AC Workshop,

and there are others.

But there are some good ones around, sadly not that many though.    I know some good Independent VW Specialists.

I live in Ayrshire in Scotland and finding a good reputable garage is hard to come by, I have been advised that Skoda are the way to go but I'm quite reserved as to what to do because they're charging me £84 for a 1 hour diagnostic check! I know this may give me answers but I've already spent a fortune already and the car is still of the road.

Hopefully you will be OK if it is Ingram Ayr you are going to.

For Trading Standards a Report from an Independent Motor Vehicle Engineer would have been better for the original issue,

too late now for that sadly with you having had an assortment of jokers messing about with the car.

I know Ayrshire quite well and actually am surprised you found so many incompetents.

All the Best with it.

I am in Sunny Ayrshire from tomorrow until later next week, which is obviously no help to you as i really have not got a scooby what has gone so wrong.

It may be too far for you but I can recommend David Mylett, a VAG specialist in Thornliebank (southern edge of Glasgow close to the M77) - reasonable rates and totally trustworthy - have used him for my MKI Fabia vRS (1.9 TDi engine) and my MKII (although only MOTs).
