Snow Foam Newbie Advice

Featured Replies

Hello all

Please can you help a snow foam newbie?

I got a snow foam lance for Christmas, so I bought some Power Maxed snow foam, and decided to brave the cold and break it out today! So I have a few questions.

How much dirt is it supposed to remove? I know my car was quite dirty, and it definitely took a lot off, but there was still a fair amount left on the car. Is it more of a 'pre-wash' if you like?

To remove, would you use the pressure washer or a normal hose? It seemed to take a long time to remove the foam with the pressure washer and it left some funny patterns in the dirt!

I think I got the thickness right having played with the adjusters on the lance and the foam stuck around for a good few minutes on the car.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt some snow foams are better than others and you need to let it dwell for at least 5 minutes . If your car is heavily waxed it takes nearly all off . It just makes it safer to then shampoo with less chance of scratching the paintwork , and yes use the pressure washer to remove the foam , cheers Alan

Spot on advice from Alan there, Matt.

Everything there is bang on. I will add that a thicker foam is not always the best. The action of the bubbles popping on the paintwork and falling down loosens and even removes the dirt.

A perfect example is Bilt Hamber Autofoam. Some people don't like it because the foam isn't thick, but because its foam isn't thick, it is a better cleaner, which is what a snow foam is all about for me.

ValetPro works well, it takes a bit of time to get used to the whole wash process.

It definitely shifts more once you've got a good layer of protection on the car.

I assume you rinsed the car with the pressure washer 1st to remove the worst of the dirt before applying the snow foam?

Ideally you want the foam to dwell for 5 - 10 mins before pressure washing it back off,

it is as you say just a pre cleaner, however some snow foams will get the car nearly clean on their own, I am currently using KKD Blizzard and personally find it better than Autobrite Magifoam and Valet Pro PH neutral.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your comments - that's why I like this forum.

Sounds like I need to keep playing with it to see if I can get the foam to work better. I left the foam on for at least a few minutes but maybe not long enough.

The car was very dirty, and no I didn't pressure wash the worst off! I'll do that next time. I like the idea of a prewash spray, I'll look into that.

You've also reminded me that its a while since I put any wax or any sort on so maybe that isn't helping. I'll sort that too when I get a chance!

Many thanks,
Matt
