List of problems and pretty lights - VRS SE 2007

Featured Replies

So thought it a good time now I've sorted my suspension to list some problems that I haven't bothered with.

1. EML due to EGR delete.

It seems the guy who had it before me had gone the cheap road to doing an EGR delete. The EGR valve was hanging by a cable tie behind the engine with the sensor plugged into it. I've taken the EML light off twice and it keeps coming back and upon further inspection today whilst I was cleaning my panel filter, one of the wires to the block attacking to the EGR valve was snapped. There's 4 little wires going into a block that plugs into the EGR, and one of them is snapped, very small wire so I guess that's why my EML light keeps returning.

I did the starter motor solenoid wire of death myself, but this one looks smaller and more fiddly and leads into an actual block, not just connecting 2 wires. Probably end up having to take it to a garage who do the 'electrical stuff', lol.

2. My wallet is empty, look at that fuel light.

3. ABS and Traction control.

Added the new Mondeo MK1 drop links today and was fiddling about with my strut and to get the ABS sensor off, I used a screw driver.

I must have damaged the clip because it doesn't make a 'CLICK' when it goes on and I can wiggle it off without touching the clip now.

Well, that's now made my lights go on the dashboard and I assume my actual ABS and Traction control is actually OFF as a result because I'm spinning up a lot more that I have been lately with my new RS3's.

4. Squeaky brakes.

My brakes are squeaking when I brake very lightly and as of tonight, when I go round a roundabout, lol.

I get paid at the end of the month and I'm getting all new disks and pads all round so hopefully that will sort it, but can I do anything as a quick fix now to stop it? It's embarrassing lol.

Thought I had missed something...

5. Washer fluid leaking

I fill it up and it comes on by the next day or so, so I've just survived without it.

Any easy ways to find out where the leak is without taking the bumper off? Otherwise guides to taking the front end apart would be appreciated.

Been going slower now I'm 40mm lower, it sucks.

You don't have to remove the bumper to inspect the washer bottle. Just undo a few screws in the wheel arch liner and pull it back (or remove it completely).

Awesome, I can check that out tomorrow then probably!

Why did you need to remove ABS sensor to fit drop links?

Expensive mistake :(

I went to take everything off to go back to standard suspension then I just thought I'll try it out with the drop links so re-connected it all on the lowered suspension.

How expensive is expensive? If anythings broken it's literately the clip behind the brake disk??

The norm is for the sensor to be broken, easily done being rough removing the plug.

If the plug is in place, even though it's not 'clipped' in the warning light would not be lit.

So I would go for the sensor being damaged.

Have you fitted bump stops now?

The washer leak will be the little rubber o ring where the motor and pump fit in the bottle or the rubber o ring on the level sensor.

If the clip is broken on the abs sensor, can you cable tie it somehow?

Might of damaged the abs wiring if you've been tugging at it.

I think we've got a winner for the most warning lights lit! Lit up more than our Christmas tree was!

How does the new sensor attach? Am i going to need an auto electrician?

The sensor is held in with an Allen key bolt.

Oh that's great, I'll get down and dirty at the weekend with the sensor and leaking washer fluid!
